ephie reviews Sakura Fubuki

Mood/Tone: Sexy, sultry, bellydance. Someone needs to sway a little hips with this song. The ending of the song kind of detracts from the rest of the song. I would have really liked to have heard an ending similar to the beginning of the song.

Placement: Episode 23 of PGSM when Rei sings to a bunch of hospital kids, I think it was.

Memorable: Well, it was a good sign that when I saw the title, the correct song popped into my mind rather than something completely different. I remember when I used to work a fabric store, humming this song to myself as I would straighten fabrics or whatever I could do to keep myself busy on slow nights. Unfortunately, I never really go "You know, I really want to listen to Sakura Fubuki" and just play the song for old time sake.

Lyrics: She needs guidance, but rather than just wanting to face something head on, it suggests she'd rather just run and avoid it. Like she'd like things to be the way they were, but knows she could never return to that state. At the end of the song, it seems like she's figured things out with the storm clearing and she realizes even if she runs, things will still continue.

Overal Rating:

Love the way it starts and it doesn't seem to get old. Love the la la interludes, too!

ephie reviews Rashiku Ikimasho

Mood/Tone: I picture lots of colors, almost like a discotech. And cheesy dancing. This song is rather silly and I can only picture silly actions to go along with it, which is most likely why I can only ever seem to be making fun of it. Certainly isn't a bad song, I just can't ever find myself taking it seriously.

Placement: Ending theme to SuperS.

Memorable: Oh, I can definately remember this song. It's a catchy, get stuck in your head kind of song. If you call yourself a Sailor Moon fan, there's no way you can't remember an ending like this. Besides, I don't know a single person who hasn't suddenly burst out into "LA LA LA NEVER GIVE UP!". It's fun, and if you haven't tried, definitely do.

Lyrics: Eeh, not a fan. Actually makes me like the song a little less with the "YAY PUBERTY!" kind of vibe I get from it. I think some of the parts are cute, like "I'll irritate him on purpose" reminds me of how boys pick on the girls they like when they're young, but while it's cute, it's a little weird for me. I'll make him annoyed then try to woo him with my stunning good looks? Eeeh...

Overall Rating:

Favorite season with one of my least favorite endings. I like the song and all, mostly because I associate it with SuperS, but I would have loved to have had a more mysterious or dream-like ending for this season.

ephie reviews Unmei wa Utsukushiku

Tone/Mood: Relaxing, yet it seems to give me a sense of urgency about something. I also associate it with radio dramas, probably because I was able to land a part as Neptune with this song, strangely enough.

Placement: Unfortunately it was never in the series, though I think it would have made some wonderful background music, snuck into a few scenes in S.

Memorable: After hearing it a few times again, I know this will be stuck in my head for a few days, which is a little frustrating since I can only remember the choruses. I probably wouldn't have been able to recall it on its own, but it is still rather pretty on its own.

Lyrics: They really are a bit sad. To me there seems to be a bit of hope somewhere, but it seems like she's very unsure and vulnerable to many things and hoping to have her protector and partner near her so she can change all of that. Very sweet.

Overall Rating:

I like this song, it's rather pretty, but no matter how much I listen to it, I just feel like I'm listening to something from the 90s and it makes me feel a little outdated.

ephie reviews Solar Miracle Make-Up

tone/mood: Lots of shouting and usually the two sides have some sort of dance off type show before Sailor Moon will use ultimate powers of awesome. Since it's from a myu, I can't help but picture bouncing shoulders and lots of slow arm waving to this song.

placement:
Basically this is played usually right before Sailor Moon decides to lay the smack on someone, as in a "I'm really going to do it this time...I'm totally serious...okay here it comes..." kind of thing. Generally just building up the so called suspense.

memorable:
Well, to be honest, until I went digging for it, I had forgotten about it. I don't listen to my myu soundtracks as often as I used to, and this just wasn't a song that completely stuck in my mind. I do know and remember it now, but to have me think it up on the spot might have not happened. Especially since the song only comes on soundtracks 2 and 7, ones which I usually don't listen to, even though 2 has one of my favorites in there. Also turns out to be in 8, but I don't have that soundtrack.

lyrics:
The whole part about dinosaurs and dead flowers coming back to life because the soldiers wish it to be so is a little odd for me, but i think it's pretty good otherwise. Basically, you lose because we said so and we've got the power.

overall rating:

Not a bad song, just not the best.

ephie reviews La Soldier

Tone/Mood: Usually heard with such fanfare and gusto, La Soldier usually gets me into a coordinated dancing move where my shoulders pop to the beat before my feet swing in sweeping motions in front of me. Clearly, I've watch more than my fair share of myus. In fact, it really isn't a myu unless La Soldier is sung with the lazer light show and strobe lights to boot. I've always wondered why that was made into a tradition, but it's one I really don't mind, making it something comfortable and familiar. If I would have to choose a song to encapsulate the musicals in particular, it would totally have to be La Soldier, though I must admit that the wolf howl almost always gets a chuckle out of me, as I find it to be a bit out of place. Anyone seriously tell me why it's there?

Placement: Looking through my myu soundtracks I only see it making at the end of every musical, usually as a curtain call sort of song. Musical 6 is the only one I see that has it not as the last track, while 7 doesn't seem to have it at all. I also remember it being near the end of R in the Anime. Probably the first time I heard it was during that battle in R, but the one I definitely remember the best would have to be the myu versions, the one from the 5th myu soundtrack the best (as it was my first one to own.)

Memorable: DEFINITELY! You hear La Soldier and you can't HELP but think of Sailor Moon, or more importantly, those cheesy musicals that I can never seem to get enough of. The only problem I have is since I have all the respective soundtracks (save three) plus every compilation they came out with, my iTunes is a bit full with La Soldier tracks.

Lyrics: I think as far as the lyrics go, they fit in much better when pertaining to the anime usage rather than just as filler in a musical. Though on further thought, it's talking about maybe meeting again, so it's perhaps not such a bad ending song, talking about always remembering the other and that the feelings for you (as the audience?) will be the same and they hope to see you soon.

Overall Rating:

Gotta love this song.
