Change of Pace

Sailor Mercury - Topaz

Tone/Mood

Its a nice sounding song with alot of horns in it. And a good beat to it. And the english in the beginning its a good plus

Placement

I foget the act it was one of the first few in the second story part I think like act 30. Minako is upset with Mio for being mean to Usagi and does not trust the girl as far as she can throw her. We here it as Mio is at the studio recording the song and minako walks in.

Memorable

I belive this is. Its a quite a good sounding song and her voice is wonderful. you can hear like a crack singing but it fits so well. and for the Mio hates or lovers you can help but to sing "step by step" hehe

Lyrics

You might be convinced
You've gotten hold of
The treasure in front of you
But she's going to vanish like an illusion
Say goodbye to the girl at your beck and call

Well as we know Mio is Beryls shadow so it can also be taken as she is also singing the song through Mio. Its like she is telling mamoru you think now that you have found the princees all is good and you won, but watch yourself i got something up my sleeve

This brief love is over
The agreement was for one time only
You won't get anywhere

to me this seems like its talking about the time that Mamoru was in the dark kingdom. like he is being told yes we agreed on this one thing but you really don't think i am gonna let you go do you?

Overall Rating

I would give this a 4. its a good sounding song and the words work for me like as in the show Mio is only part of Beryl and is trying to get to Mamoru.

Queen Beryl - Alexa

Tone/Mood

I loveee this song! I love the horns at the starting and how you can hear the beat Alisa sings to. However, ever since I saw the Special Act (BLEH ON YOU ALISA!) my favouritism for this song needs to be rechecked.

Placement

It was in that one act, where Mio was singing it at a recording station, and then Minako came and Mio was all like ‘Oh my! Minako! I’m sooo delighted’ and fake. I just wanted to punch her.. Anyway, I think the placement is really good.

Memorable

Yes! This song is very memorable! Immediately after I heard it on the Act, I listened to it several times and then downloaded the full version. I think this song fits with the act.

Lyrics

I like the lyrics to this song, really, considering I know them all by heart! At the starting, where you get a dose of English, I think it really is a good starting, however, considering I don’t speak Japanese, and Japanese isn’t my first language, I’m not sure what the Japanese children might think of the English.

Fiveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! This is my all time Favourite SONG!!

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

Typical J-POP-sounding song when you first load it up. Slow moving, but upbeat all the same. This song is good if you're in a bad mood, and you just need to sing and try to forget your crap day. Least, that's what it does for me =)

Placement

VERY cool placement, although I'm not entirely sure that I agree with it's usage, if that makes any sense. While I loved Mio to death, since she was such a royal bitch, this song doesn't really capture JUST how evil she can be. On the other hand, it does capture Mio's sunshiney-evilness perfectly, giving that perfect mix of betrayal and meanness while coming off as sweet-sounding and friendly. When I heard this in the Special Act, I didn't really like how it was displayed, with Mio smiling and all of that and trying to be evil and capture people's energy. This song was just TOO upbeat for that, IMO. Oh well.

Memorable

You're damned right! This is memorable on two counts: Firstly, if you're a Mio fan, this is YOUR SONG! Mio fans everywhere love this song, it's right up there with "Koibito", the music video Mio portrayed the love interest in by Kishidan. (Do we think maybe it's coincidence that "Koibito" is also one of my favorite songs/videos by Kishidan?) Also, this is the only villian-related song from the PGSM Special Act. I loved it for both counts, and as such, I will always remember it.

Lyrics

Worrying only about appearance
It takes some boldness to act like the others
Do we have the kind of relationship
That us two
Can't tell others about?

This reminds me of Mio's longing for Mamoru. She can't have him, and even if she did, she would have to hide it from Usagi in order for it to ever work out, because otherwise Usagi would go Princess Moon on her ass. Mio is INCREDIBLY full of herself, as seen time and time again in the Acts. She thinks she is better than Aino Minako, all of the girls at Juuban Middle School, and she tries constantly to act sweet and nice, like other people. These lyrics fit Mio's character perfectly.

Overall Rating

Considering this is one of my favorite songs from PGSM, and I can't find anything wrong with it, it's getting a five. This would be a good song even without PGSM, in my opinion.

Frosted_Rain - Nephrite

Tone/Mood

Nice intro with the trumpets (much like Ska). Her english tone is much more recognizable than the others because of her nationality. Upbeat like the rest but less irritating.

Placement

First heard on Act 30 and on the Special Act. Kinda irritating for making Minako such a loser on that scene (GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!). On the Special Act, it served as her introduction song for her conquest (OHHHH, EVIL...).

Memorable

Reminds me of Hey Jude by The Beatles (damn, I'm really that old) during the opening intro of the song. Truly a perfect rival for Minako. But in reality, they're goregeous models from CANDY and both of them has thier own DVD IDOL. Her EVILNESS is very superb (much better than Keiko's cheap-act crying).

Lyrics

Me no mae no takaramono wo
Te ni shita tsumori kamo
Shirenai keredo
Maboroshi no you ni kieru
Tsugou no ii onna ni sayonara ne

Wah... this is trully CRUEL!!!! Just what a rival would say... >:-) (Minako, don't be defeated!!!)

Overall Rating

Perhaps I'm the only remaining person in our group that's admiring Alisa. All of them (my friends who watched the series and other persons with special mention of BabyGurl and Potato Chips) HATES Alisa on some manner: her smile and her eyes. I don't know what these people ate but they just missed most of the part of it. I don't like the song much but I'm giving this song 4 hearts for her wonderful performance in Kishidan's PV of Koibito. As I will say to all Mio-haters out there: "Her role is perfect for us to hate about. So love it."

Ilse - Dark Sailor Mercury

Tone/Mood:

It's a very upbeat song. It's making me dance. First I thought that the song was stupid, because of the trumpet. But now I like it better. It's not so bad. Alisa can sing well.

Placement:

Mio sang it in act 29 and in the special act. The song is perfect for Mio, but I'm not sure if the song is good to play in the acts. It was good in act 29. But in the special act Whatever.

Memorable:

No, I don't think it's memorable. Not for me. For the Alisa fans may be, but I think no.

Lyrics:

The eternal love affair
I realize is fate, but
I'm taking the long way round
STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE
Firmly stepping out on the road
The rose-colored days pile on top of one another
LOVE YOU, LOVE ME, PLEASE

I think the lyrics are very funny! I don't know why, but I burst out of laughter when I read them. Love me please, oh come on!

Overall rating:

4 hearts! The song is a good character song for Mio, and the lyrics are funny. The song has a nice melody, what's more to say?

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone

Another upbeat song sung by everyone's favorite villianess, Mio-chan! While Alsia has a wonderful voice, I think the song wasn't as good as it could of been. It's lacking something but I can't put my foot on it. I do like, however, when she "belts" out 'Change of Pace' at the end of the verse. Classic! Hehehehe...

Placement

I believe the song was used when Minako was watching her rival in the recording studio. Again...classic Mio...hehe. *Ahem* The song was also used in the Special Act. It suits Mio's character to a 'T' as she (I think) is telling Usagi to get away from Mamoru so she can have him. You'll need to read between the lines to catch that. ^_^

Memorable

You have to be a Mio fan to memorize this song. Well maybe not, but fans will recongize the song since it was used in Act thirty-something as well as in the Special Act. Who can forget the song as Mio wore that Queen of Spades (or Hearts) outfit while singing on TV?! A big tv at that! LOL!

Lyrics

"You might be convinced
You've gotten hold of
The treasure in front of you
But she's going to vanish like an illusion
Say goodbye to the girl at your beck and call"

I like how decieving the words are. "You might be convinced...But she's going to vanish..." Now I don't know about you but that is just screaming "Usagi will disappear, and you, Mamoru, will be mine!" The whole song is like that.

Overall Rating

3 hearts out of 5! Since the song was so so I gave it a 3 out of 5. I don't care for the song, but the beat and lyrics make up for it. Yes, Alisa can sing but I just don't like the song.

Sailor Venus - Tobias

Tone/Mood

A nicely paced tone, its not rushed... and flows quite nicely... its happy... not "C'est la Vie" happy... but happy none the less. The song is enjoyable enough on repeat to not drive you batty... however I am also a fan of Alisa so... I won't be annoyed as much as other people might.

Placement

This song has been used... twice. If you count the special act, anyway. Alisa has a good voice... and is really good at playing the good/bad role... especially during the part where Minako was involved. All in all it fit Mio as a character well... like her appearance in the Sailormoon world made a nice "Change of Pace".

Memorable

Memorable enough... it is Kuroki Mio's only song... a shame... she should have at least one more... but c'est la vie... I have this on my MP3 player... since it makes a nice "Change of pace" to my playlist.

Lyrics

The opening is catchy... "STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE Fumishimeru michi Taikutsuna hibi tsumikasanete Mekurumeku sekai". Alisa's English is ok too... it figures... She is half American, aside from that I have no qualms with the lyrics whatsoever... other than the usual English lyrics intermixed with Japanese lyrics.

Overall Rating

A nice song... its not hyper. It is Alisa's only song... which is too bad... I would have enjoyed another Mio song... plus Mio is new to the Sailormoon world, with her interesting story, her origin and such... and how she still acted... well... somewhat nice to Usagi... her stunts at the school... weren't really the most evil things that I could think of... anyway, in terms of the song... it works... its very Mio-ish.

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

Very J-Pop, it also has a happy sound. This song has a strange mixture of instruments and sounds, but that doesn't mean it is bad. There's a part of the song, where I can even recall a jazz song (lol). XD

Placement:

We can hear this song in the first act she ever appeared, if I'm not wrong. I think it was so cool how the producers designed this Mio character; an evil girl yet so charming and smart. This song was perfectly placed in that act because it really showed us that Kuroki Mio was a super idol and nothing more. As popular, good looking and awesome singer as Minako, we spectators didn't have a clear idea of what this character could really be.

Memorable:

Fan or not, I think this song is very memorable as the only "evil's" character song. Also, this song is really great, it has a nice tone and melody; you might find yourself singing sometime "Step by Step, one by one " XD. I think it would have been cool to have Alyssa sang this song in the Live Event show; she would have spiced up the show even more than the shitennou funny scene! XD

Lyrics:

Even though in Japanese my favorite part is the chorus, I think the translation of this part of the song is nicely done:

I just make whatever excuse works
And run out
Pressed by my quota
Behaving oddly, you know
The two of us, we're ridiculous

~^*^~

The eternal love affair
I realize is fate, but
I'm taking the long way round
STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE
Firmly stepping out on the road
The rose-colored days pile on top of one another
LOVE YOU, LOVE ME, PLEASE

(OMG this part of the song just sound as Beryl to Mamoru! XD;;;)

I would have never thought of this song as Beryl singing it to Mamoru/Endymion. That was a really cool point of view Topaz and Elly made me realize of. This really does sound as a song The Dark Kingdom's evil queen/shadow would sing to her love. It just shows how they (Kuroki and Beryl) feel without their true & only love. Also, the part of "I just make whatever excuse work" reminds me of every time Mio fooled Usagi, and the time where she was with Minako, and made the staff believe that she made her cry. She was really and excellent PGSM character!!!

Overall Rating:

I give this song a 4 star rating. It took me a lot of time to like this song completely; I could say that the like for Mio's song comes and goes XD;

Sailor Uranus - Nickole

Tone/Mood

This song has a cool jazzy/pop beat to it that I like, and it makes good for a dancing song, especially the Step By Step One By One part!

Placement

As far as I know, this song was sang by Mio in an act I've watched online, although I'm not quite sure what act it was.......

Memorable

Definatly! Anyone who listens to this song will have the first part stuck in their head! *Begins to sing along to beginning*

Lyrics

This brief love is over
The agreement was for one time only
You won't get anywhere
STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE
Firmly stepping out on the road
The boring nights pile on top of one another
In this dazzling age

I LOVE this songs lyrics! Especially the STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE part, which I constantly sing along to.

Overall Rating

A definate 5, because Its got a great beat, and fun lyrics to sing to! :)

Kuroki Mio - Kaitlin

Tone/Mood

Ooo trumpets! The one thing J-Pop is missing. Actually, this song has a great beat and a really funky sound to it. A surprising change from most of what I hear. This song is, however, awkward as heck to sing along to. It makes me want to though. Alisa is a great singer. The tempo changes a lot in this song. Too much? Hard to say... it works for the song, but I can't imagine doing it with many of them. I do like the song though and Alisa's delivery is spot on. It makes me walk around going "Step by step, one by one."

Placement

Only shown briefly in the show while Mio is recording and Minako shows up and interrupts her. I did want to hear more of it when I saw it in the show though. This is, again, based on Alisa's talent. I really can't imagine it being used more because Mio quickly goes from a Big Bad to a minor guy... Poor, poor Mio. You get your turn to shine in Special Act.

Memorable

Not really memorable... though it was enough to get me searching for it after seeing (hearing?) it on the show.

Lyrics

The lyrics are great. Lots of English. Yes, I mean English and not Engrish because she delivers it in perfect english. The most catchy part is the beginning:

"STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE Firmly stepping out on the road The boring days pile on top of one another In this dazzling world "

Nice to know. The lyrics seem to say this is a song about being one BAD GIRL! You can't assume she's your girlfriend! She says so! "You might be convinced You've gotten hold of The treasure in front of you But she's going to vanish like an illusion Say goodbye to the girl at your beck and call

Oh you crazy girl, you. The things you say. She also kinda suggests she's whoring herself out... or is that just my interpretation? "This brief love is over The agreement was for one time only " and "I just make whatever excuse works And run out Pressed by my quota " Why? Your pimp gonna beat you down? Kinda ridiculous, actually. Unless I'm misinterpretting.

"LOVE YOU, LOVE ME, PLEASE "

I love you long time Mio.

Overall Rating

4 - It's a good song, but the lyrics are strange.

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

I dunno. I guess I was a little disappointed with this song because it is sung by a baddie, and it doesn't sound like a baddie song! The beat is nice though, having that "i gotta dance" feeling, and the tone is pretty sweet.

Placement

You hear it in the special act, when Mio decides that she is going to take over the world. I wish I heard it in the series, since she was a singer and all.

Memorable

I think it will be memorable for Mio fans, since it is the only song she sings.

Lyrics

This brief love is over The agreement was for one time only You won't get anywhere STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE Firmly stepping out on the road The boring nights pile on top of one another In this dazzling age

It sound slike she is talking about a teenager growing up and doing her own thing. It's great, but not a song a baddie would sing!>.<

Overall rating

A three, because this song reall disappointed me. Sure, Mio was an upbeat badide, but either her song should have been a little mor sinister, or she should've done another one that was.

Zoicite - Ephie

Tone/Mood

Nice and upbeat. I like the tambourine that enters later. I find it a bit amusing how the song came back while in the Special Act for background during her announcement. Another nice, happy song.

Placement

Special Act and scattered in the series.

Memorable

I remember this song well. At first I didn't realize it was Mio singing this song (especially before I knew who Mio was). But it's quickly grown to be one of my favorites, and I find myself singing the beginning of the song, mostly at work.

Lyrics

Katte na rikutsu wo tsukete
Nigete bakari
NORUMA ni oware
Bukiyou ni furumatte sa
BAKA mitai ne watashitachi futari

I do like these lyrics best from the song. I find they work well for not only Mio's character but for Minako's as well.

Overall Rating

This song gets a 4. I do love it, it gets stuck in my head, and has that happy upbeat feeling I like looking for in songs, but not overdone. Unfortunately, sometimes I find it gets stuck in my head a little too often, which is why it is not a 5.

Prince Endymion - Alexander

Tone/Mood

"Change of Peace" is a VERY happy, optimistic and beautiful song by our most favourite villianness - Mio Kuroki! Nice and up-beat melody that everyone enjoys! The opening is in English which is new and fresh! I don't assosiate it with Dark Kingdom, but when I listen to it I remember Mio!

Placement

In act 30 and in the Special Act. The song was played when Mio sings in the recording studo and her and Minako meet. In the Special Act Mio tells that she needs people's human-energy and starts singing the song. I think "Change of Peace"'s placement is good, and I am very happy that PGSM directors didn't leave it out of the show only on PGSM CDs.

Memorable

"Change of Peace" is a very memorable song for most fans, I suppose. Actually, Mio is the only pone from the villians who sang! No one can forget that up-beat melody and the nice voice of Alisa!

Lyrics

"The eternal love affair
I realize is fate, but
I'm taking the long way round
STEP BY STEP ONE BY ONE
Firmly stepping out on the road
The rose-colored days pile on top of one another
LOVE YOU, LOVE ME, PLEASE"

The lyrics of "Change of Peace" are about the most wonderful feeling in the world - the love! These love-lyrics sound nice if Mio sings them because even tho's she's a badie, she is a person that always make me feel somehow veeeery well!!

Overall Rating

5 hearts!! I can't explain you how WELL I feel while I am listening Alisa's song! It's a combination of perfect melody, nice sound and sweet voice! All I can say is that "Change of Peace" is a wonderfully done song!!

Sailor Pluto - Ciao

Tone/Mood

I love this song and play it over and over. I'm sure I've reviewed it before but I cleared out my disk drives and I think I might have deleted it by accident *chuckles sheepishly* That'll teach me. I don't mind though, because I do like the song a lot. It's one of the best in the show, in my opinion..

Placement

I know this song is in the show somewhere but as I haven't seen all of the later episodes I am not sure where so I have no idea if it fits or not. (I still don't have all the Acts yet...)

Memorable

I really like this song and it's very memorable to me. Ever since I first heard it, I have found myself thinking about it and singing bits and pieces of it. You can tell that she enjoys it and isn't forcing herself to sing it.. There's emotion behind the singing which seems to be lacking with some of the others.

Lyrics

The lyrics really work with the syncopation of the music. There are a few parts where it seems almost like she's losing it but picks it up quite quickly. You can tell she's also a native English speaker as well as Japanese because there's none of the hesitation, or the 'engrish' that the other girls use when they sing. She's at home in both languages and it shows in the song. I'm not really keen on people singing in 2 languages in one song if they're not confident in one of them. This goes for any language, not just Japanese. If you're gonna use it, make sure the singer is confident enough.

Overall Rating

I'd give this song a 5 *smiles*

Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto

Mood:

Playful, quite contrary to what one would expect of the sadistic Mio. It's only creepy in the sense that Pee-Wee's Playhouse was.

Placement:

Very cool, to introduce her as a pop idol by having her in the recording studio doing this song. Although, by making it a straight song that Minako could have sung, it didn't make her out to be as evil as she turned out to be.

Memorable:

Oh, yeah. The trumpet hook at the beginning immediately identifies the song, and the way the "Step by step. . . " line is done first at the beginning and later as the middle of a verse give this song its uniqueness.

Lyrics:

Well, they're all right, but not really Mio. If it were "step by step, on people's faces" or "Change of pace! From killing a few people at a time to full-scale genocide," that's what I'd expect more.

Overall:

This is the sort of thing that should have been like a bonus track on a CD, because it's the only song done directly for and by a villain. Still, it gives you a chance to indulge your dark side, without anyone knowing. Four.

Sailor Jupiter - Joy Azama

Tone/Mood

This song has no lasting impression to me, and it does not make me do anything but at times, cringe. I hate Mio's character, which means the actress really made a good job out of it. When I first time heard it, I remember not loving it at all, and even up to now either, but it is the only Mio song out there, except for her trademark BGM in the Special Act (which I am fonder of). Durbrow's voice, however, is good.

Placement

This song is found on the CDs, not played on the Kirari Super Live Event, and could be heard on Mio's debut in Act 29 and also in the Special Act, and I'm not sure if it is played in Act 30. In these episodes (Acts 29/30), Mio is recording the song, and as far as my memory serves me, Minako is looking at her, and Mio's recording was brought to a halt, and a confrontation followed thereafter. In the Special Act, this song was played when a "music video" of Mio singing it was shown on a big TV-screen in a building.

Memorable

Not very memorable to me, but it is the only Mio song out there. I always, not usually, skip this song because, like I said, I am not really fond of it, and the effect of the trumpet(?) is a bit off for me.

Lyrics

Firmly stepping out on the road
The boring days pile on top of one another
In this dazzling world

Worrying only about appearance
It takes some boldness to act like the others
Do we have the kind of relationship
That us two
Can't tell others about?

You might be convinced
You've gotten hold of
The treasure in front of you
But she's going to vanish like an illusion
Say goodbye to the girl at your beck and call

These lyrics are Mio! Everything is about her wicked ways and wacky mind. Mio is the type who hides her true identity and shows a totally different person in front of people. Deep inside those external features, lies a rotten soul.

Overall Rating

I give this song two out of five hearts. Don't care much of it, but Durbrow's voice is nice, and the lyrics are appropriate. Another plus side of this song is that Durbrow sang it live in her debut act (I really appreciate this aspect because in some acts where Minako sang, she didn't do it live. But Minako did sing a live song once in the series, and that is on Act 12. Others Usagi: in acts where she sang "C'est La Vie" Ami: in acts where she also sang "C'est La Vie" with Usagi, specifically Act 14 Makoto: also in Act 14, where she and Luna sang "Katagoshi ni Kinsei" Rei: . Nothing? Her "Sakura Fubuki" is not live Oh well, off topic).

Kunzite - Loreal

Tone/Mood

While it sounds like a typical J-Pop song, I kind of liked it. The instruments really made the song.

Placement

The Special Act and somewhere else in the series.

Memorable

The horns and the tamborine really caught my attention.

Lyrics

There is something off about these lyrics. Then again, there is really something off with Mio, so I guess it all works out. She speaks english very well and it stands out.

Overall

I am torn. I can't really decide if I like this song or not. The instruments are really neat, but it does seem to be just another J-Pop song. I give it a three.

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

Deceptively cheerful. I enjoy playing these sorts of songs for friends who don't speak English, and seeing what they think it's about. No one would guess that it's about unrequited love ... however, this IS Mio singing, and she's a bit on the special side, so I think the discrepancy between style and lyrics is allowable.

PLACEMENT:

Briefly before the 'fight' with Minako, and briefly again in the Special Act when Mio was all Queen of Hearts-y.

MEMORABLE:

I'd say so. Not for originality, but just for its overall sound.

LYRICS:

Boy ... what to make of these. These were my first clue, long ago, as to who Mio really was. As a stand-alone song, it can be taken as an attempt to plaster false happiness over the heartbreak of unrequited love. But since this is Mio, you just sort of shake your head and stare.

OVERALL RATING:

5 out of 5 hearts. Excellent lyrics, layered meaning, and an orchestration that's upbeat without being obnoxious.

Sailor Uranus - G.E. Artemis

Tone/Mood:

I don’t know what instrument that is in the beginning-I’ve never been able to distinguish the difference between the sound of trumpets and the saxophone. Yes, I’m stupid. Sue me. XD Anyway, Alisa’s voice is really, really good. This whole song sounds like a bad girl song, especially when you know the lyrics.

Placement:

Dear My Friend album. I’m sure it’s used in some acts too, but I haven’t even gotten that far in PGSM yet. *is behind*

Memorable:

Hell yeah. It’s definitely different from the other girl’s songs.

Lyrics:

You may think that you’ve found
The treasure in front of you
But she’s going to vanish like an illusion
Say goodbye to the girl of convenience

Oooh. Very, very evil. This sounds so much like Mio and Beryl.

Rating:

Really, how could you not like this song?
