ARCHIVED HTML - I Can't Wait

Kuroki Mio - Kara
TONE/MOOD:
I don't think I even need to say anything about Chieko's recent Top 40 sound here like I have been elsewhere. This is teenybop-pop, and while Chieko's voice lends an edge to it that makes it more bearable, it's still a Hillary Duff cover. No amount of Chieko-ness can cover that up.PLACEMENT:
From Kawabe Chieko's Kizunairo, and I really wanna know whose idea it was to put it there.MEMORABLE:
No. Not in English, only faintly more so in Japanese.LYRICS:
'Boy shoes and rock star phone.' Good for you. The lyrics haven't appealed to me before, and unfortunately, they don't seem to have taken many liberties with the translation. They still don't do anything for me.OVERALL RATING:
1 out of 5 hearts. It loses one for being a Hillary Duff cover. This is one of those moments when you point a finger and thumb in the general direction of Japan and go 'BLAM!!!'
Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse
Tone/Mood
NOOO!!! Why Kawbe, Why! Why do you have to sing a cover by Hillary Duff?! >.< Your voice is almost the same like that brat! Sorry but you messed it up this time! One good point is, that you sing it better than her. Sometimes it's nice to listen, but then it's Chieco's voice that cheers you up a bit.Placement
Nope, thank God!Memorable
No! This is already sang by "the brat", so I think NO! Kawabe, how could you?! :'(Lyrics
I haven't got foreverAnd I haven't got all day
Oooh, I don't want my world to stay the same
So where's a magic moment
To carry me away
I can't wait for the world to spin
I can't wait to be happenin'
Ooh, what's it gonna take
I can't wait for the time to come
When I'll be shining like the sun
I can't wait
Okay, the lyrics are better then the way the song is sung (or was it sang? whatever). It's nice that the lyrics are translated in rime, I guess that the translation of it was easier because the English lyrics already exist.
Overall rating
Sorry Kawabe, but I have to give it only 2 hearts. The song is just blah! This is the most awful song I ever reviewed. Oh why!? kawabe, why?! Whoever made Kawabe sing this song, CURSE YOU!
Sailor Neptune - Ruth
Tone/Mood
Remake song. I Can't Wait was originally done by Hillary Duff but this version is 100x better! HAHA Hillary fans! :P Anywho, this is an upbeat pop song that can get your mood up in a jiffy. I only like a few parts from this song but I'll talk about that in the lyrics dept. ^_^Placement
Not used in the show.Memorable
Only if you're a Lizzy McGuire fan. It's not my fav song. It's more towards the bottom of the list. The only thing memorable to me is the "bam bam bam" parts. LOL!Lyrics
"Nani o shitatte ima ku iku hi ga aruUnmei da to tenshi ga hohoemu
Donna mubou mo, minna kanou de
Kono hitogomi de deachau ka mo?"
I used the Japanese lyrics this time because as I mentioned before, it sounds so much better this way. That and I like singing the Japanese versions of remake songs.
Overall Rating
3/5! I gave it 3 hearts because it's Chieko singing. I really don't care for the song though and it's like number 2 on the "I don't like this song" list.
Princess Serenity - Elly
Tone/Mood
This is probably my favorite song by Kawabe-san, even if it is a cover of that stupid Hilary Duff song. It's very pop and upbeat.Placement
Not used in the show.Memorable
To me, yes. This is actually sort of a funny story. I was in Japanese class translating this song because I never pay attention to the teacher (Malo-sensei, whose name means 'bad' in Spanish. What sort of an omen is that? Her name perfectly describes her teaching abilities. I'm lucky I'm able to teach myself foreign language) and this girl in my class, Maryam (who coincidentally is a Muslim cheerleader. My school is *very* socially diverse) was walking by and looked at what I was doing. She saw the English parts of the lyrics sheet and started singing the song in English. I was like WTF! She told me it was a song by Hilary Duff that she knew, and was I translating it into Japanese? How oblivious I felt to American pop culture. I honestly don't remember the last time I watched MTV or listened to the radio. I feel so out of touch with things ;_; So, I went home and found the Hilary Duff version of the song, which helped a lot in translating the Kawabe Chieko version, since they're both the same song. Odd that the lyrics coincidentally rhyme and mean the same thing in both English and Japanese o.O;;Lyrics
How it happensI don't care
If it's rainin'
Or what I wear
I know today is taking me
The lyrics in general are your typical pop crap, but I liked those lines out of the others. I don't really think these lyrics have any hidden deep meaning, if you follow.
Overall Rating
Being that I love this song, I gave it a five =)
Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan
Tone/Mood:
Very pop and moody, I like this song because it's very cheery, and you can get happy just by listening to it. Even though is a Hillary Duff's cover I like better Chieco's version is more upbeat and the background for the music sounds better. Her voice is a hundred times more powerful than Hillary's.Placement:
You can find this song in the 'Shining' single.Memorable:
I can say I will remember this song because is Chieco's first cover (not the best choice for a cover but whatever XD). Also, this song sounds so good in Japanese! Chieco has proven that she can sing excellent (again XD) (and even if it's a Disney Brat's song)! XDLyrics:
Not as mature as other lyrics (but hey, it's a Hillary Duff's song)Everybody has their day
Where things just seem
To go their way
An angel's gonna
Smile on me
When it's meant to be
'Cause anything's possible
No matter how incredible
You never know who I might meet
I like this part of the song XD, even though it's a little bit childish, they do their part (both in English and Japanese the lyrics are very contagious XD).
Overall Rating:
I like the song, it is fun and it has rhythm; I give Chieco's cover 4 stars.
Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin
TONE/MOOD:
Oooo she can't wait for some funky bass! I swear there is too much feedback in these songs! She sounds like she's enjoying the song but it also sounds like something you'd see in a commercial. Maaaaaybe an anime opening now that I hear the chorus. Pretty bouncy but doesn't get me moving.PLACEMENT:
Kawabe Chieko's KizunairoMEMORABLE:
More so than the others I think.LYRICS:
"Doesn't matter where I goWith my boy shoes
And my rock star phone
I'm waiting for a friend to call
Or the rain to fall
Life goes by
Who knows why"
I like the imagery there. But who knows why? I don't get that.
"Everybody has their day
Where things just seem
To go their way
An angel's gonna
Smile on me
When it's meant to be
'Cause anything's possible
No matter how incredible
You never know who I might meet
On this crowded street
Life goes on
Like a song"
She sure sounds cheery, hey? Maybe she said goodbye to the dork in the first song. This song does try to inspire and now that I've understood the lyrics, it really does!
"I can't wait for the time to come
When I'll be shining like the sun
I can't wait"
How true that is.
OVERALL RATING:
4, it's better than the others ^^
Zoicite - Ephie
Tone/Mood:
Very upbeat, with one of those "yay me!" tones to it. This has strayed from the ELT feeling and I can definately pick out Cheiko's distinct voice a bit more in this.Placement:
Cheiko's CDMemorable:
I also can't see me remembering this one for anything in particular. It's just a little 'eh' for me, and the melody, I find, is a bit hard to grab onto, as it's almost nonexistant at the beginning.Lyrics:
I really can't pick out something in the lyrics that'll really do this song justice. Though with the feeling of "wearing my boyshoes" and "my rockstar phone", it lends me more the visual appearance of an American girl who's up on the trends that are going around now, skater or something if you will.Overall Rating:
I give this song a 2. I'm not really into it, and the lyrics just don't strike me as something special.
Sailor Luna - Emo-chan
Tone/Mood
Since this is the same song that Hilary Duff does, it has the same tone. It's very happy and perky. I like hearing it in Japanese.Placement
N/AMemorible
This will be one of the songs I remember that she did, because it is a cover of Duff's song, which is pretty cool. It's very catchy.Lyrics
I can't wait for the world to spin I can't wait to be happenin' Ooh, What's it gonna take I can't wait for the time to come When I'll be shining like the sun I can't wait (I can't wait)Aren't these basically the same lyrics? I think it's cool. The song is cery good at catching certain emotions. It kinda reminds me of maybe graduating, siince that's what Im dealing with right now.
I haven't got forever And I haven't got all day Oooh, I don't want my world to stay the same So where's a magic moment To carry me away
The words are very enthusiastic, which I like.
Overall
a FIVE!! I love this song, both the english and japanese versions. I really think Cheiko caught the feleings and the emotions from the original track in this. Plus being able to sing it in japanese and in english is just awsome!
Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto
Mood:
Good bass line and the beginning has kind of a Paul Simon vibe (the singer, not the late Senator from Illinois). The chorus is a bit hard hitting.Placement:
As covered from a Hillary Duff song. Come on, Chie-chan, you're better than that. You should be making her cover you. In fact, if it ever comes up, I'm going to tell people that Duff stole this song from her and that Chieco's version came out in 1992 or something. Someone write a bogus web page to support this lie.Memorable:
The beginning hook tends to keep your interest, and if you can get to the first chorus, yeah, you'll keep listening.Lyrics:
Upbeat, J-poppy stuff. I haven't even read the original lyrics, but I dismiss them with extreme prejudice as banal and uninspired while the Japanese are beautiful poetry.Overall:
A highlight in Chieco's corpus thus far, and this is due entirely to Chieco's brilliant interpretation and no credit at all goes to the original artist. Four.
Sailor Mars - Akarui
Tone/Mood
This is a kinda happy bouncy feeling as well.Placement
Nope, not placed, but I think it was used as a Lizzie MacGuire movie theme (Japanese version, of course).Memorable
Memorable, yes, because there's an American version... and that Chieco's is better. I've tried to sing it, but I still have to improve on that :P ...Lyrics
As for the sound of the lyrics, yes, they do flow. As for the actual meaning, the weird thing is that the Japanese lyrics seem to match the actual English version almost word for word, the problem being that the English words (IMO) don't flow at all... I mean, it looks like the song was made for Chieco and when you listen to both versions, you realize that Hillary Duff might be cute, but in this song, she's not that great.Overall Rating
4 hearts. Because I like Chieco, because this song proves that Japanese songs can be way better than their occidental counterparts. Heh :P !
Sailor Pluto - Ciao
Tone/Mood
This song reminds me of Hilary Duff for some reason. It seems almost like bubblegum pop. Not the obvious kind tho. Sort of borderline. I don't mind the song much but it's not one of my favourites. I'm just not sure what she hoped to achieve with this song.Placement
Not in the the series.Memorable
I remember the chorus best on this song than the others. The only part that annoys me is the part where she sings something like 'be-be bem....be-be bem...' in the end of the chorus. It's so annoying. *cuts*Lyrics
Everything works fine in this song apart from the above annoying parts of the song which I feel really drag it down. It just sounds so....lame and childish to me.Overall Rating
4/5 for this song. It's a good song and all but ever so slightly bubblegummy and annoying. She shows off her English in this song too, which is fine.
Sailor V - Jessica
Tone/Mood
The tone isn't too perky and the mood just bright enough to not be obscenely happy if you're in a bad mood! Its actually quite a mood lifter, its one of those 'get out into the world!' songs. I suppose you could dance to this and people probably have.Placement
NoneMemorable
I believe the song is more memorable for its lyrics than its melodic line or beat. I would have expected lyrics of this sort to be in a very hyper song and its nice to hear them in this sort of tone. I unfortunately find the song memorable for a reason I dislike - the singing of the beat as a bridge I find rather annoying.Lyrics
I can't wait for the time to comeWhen I'll be shining like the sun,
I can't wait (I can't wait)
I love these lines; everybody has their day in the sun when they shine for whatever reason that is unique to them. Even if you don't think the day will ever come, it will.
Overall Rating
3/5
Nephrite - Frosted_Rain
Tone/Mood
Eek! Too pop! Not a type of music for me. Remixed (or translated in japanese) from the original singer Hillary Duff (who's she anyway?). Energetic and a bit annoying.Placement
Placement... hmmm... I think it would be best if it's just placed as a file or a song in the CD. Nothing else. Placement on anything... forget it.Memorable
Only a few songs which are translated from other languages sounds good. Dubbed anime compares to this thing. Only a handful of anime which are nicely dubbed (english or any language but japanese with subbed is better). For me, the original is better to hear. For this song, i'll stick to the japanese version (I never heard the Hillary Duff original version of this. good!).Lyrics
Life goes byWho knows why
Yeah, life goes by... period.
I can't wait for the world to spin
I can't wait to be happenin'
Ooh, what's it gonna take
I can't wait for the time to come
When I'll be shining like the sun
I can't wait
Childlish dayo!!! Not a thing for a dark, semi-manipulating person like me. Not thing, sorry.
Overall Rating
2 hearts only. Definitely not my song. Too pop and very irritating to hear. One thumb down.
