Kizuna Iro - Bond Color

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

One of my co-workers commented that some of the J-pop I have 'sounds really American.' This song sort of drives that sentiment home in my mind, especially on the verses. It reminds me in a way of Avril, and not always in the good way. The chorus, however, grows on you a bit, but that's mostly the orchestration and not the actual melody. And Chieko's voice is always very nice to listen to, so she softens the blow a bit.

PLACEMENT:

From Kawabe Chieko's Kizunairo

MEMORABLE:

If it were in English, they'd be playing it on my local Top 40 radio station. I'd have to say not terribly.

LYRICS:

Chieko seems to be hitting a lot of my life right now with her lyrics, so you'll see a bit of that in my reviews this month. So I could side with the sentiment, but it felt a bit clumsy in execution. Everyone says "Who is going to pick up after him?" but That "He's so important" in my neighborhood Now I'm after your response I can't see the future but I have this feeling A lot of J-pop songs leave me feeling like I've come in on the middle of a conversation, and this one's one of those. So not so enthused about the way the lyrics themselves come across, but more with the emotion behind them.

OVERALL RATING:

I nearly said three, but as much as I like Chieko's voice and the orchestration on the chorus, I can only bring myself to give it 2 out of 5. It sounds too much like overplayed radio fodder for me to be any nicer to it, although it's got enough potential to make me wish I could be.

Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse

Tone/Mood

Funny! We have a Kizuna IRO and a Natsu IRO, only Kizuna Iro is better, because Moeco reaches the wrong notes in Natsu iro, and that makes me shiver. But now get to the real thing. I like it very much. I ever heard a demo of the song on Kawabes official site. It made me very curious. Now I heard the song real, it's less then I expected. But it is still good because our own Kawabe chieco sings it :P. Funny that everyone first seem to think that the song name was Say Goodbye. I really can understand, because she sings in the end of every line of the chorus "Say goodbye" and not Kizuna Iro!

Placement

None

Memorable

No, I guess not. If all songs would be memorable, it would be a mess inside my head. Of course, I know all lyrics without the sheet, but it doesn't has a special meaning to me.

Lyrics

Do you know when you'll be here today? Can't you face me?
With his back to me and the clouds of his heart clearing up
You raise your hand in goodbye to your home town

When are you going to answer me or look at me
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning
One of these days gonna say goodbye
Say Goodbye
One of these days gonna say goodbye

Say goodbye, that would be a better title than Kizuna Iro. That's my opinion. I like the lyrics, there nice, but not so useful, but also not worthless, so I guess that they're just normal, random lyrics.

Overall rating

I like the melody, the song isn't so special, so are the lyrics, the tone/mood is okay, so it has 4 hearts! Nice song! Chieco, GO GIRL!

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone/Mood

\'0'/ <- Yes that's me throwing my arms up in the air! I love this song to death. Out of ALL of Chieko's songs, Kizuna Iro is my absolute favorite. I almost know all the words by heart and I bob my head while listening to it. It's not too popish, but it does have that "upbeat" sound to it. Though if you saw the PV you'll know it's the exact opposite.

Placement

Not used in the show.

Memorable

Yeppers! Chieko fans unite! The lyrics are way too catchy and that's only half the reason why it's so memorable. The other half is Chieko herself. She makes this song stand out by using that powerful voice of hers. Really great how she is able to hit those high notes without making me cringe. ^^

Lyrics

'"See you later" And you raise you hand and wave me away I'm waiting intensely for you to come But I don't see your form It's just a little painful but escape and go close to the stars' To me, this first sounds as if she is talking about a would be boyfriend, and after watching the PV, I think it's her "past self" not being able to say how she feels. Really powerful words and they make sense. LOL!

Overall Rating

5/5! Just a wonderful song by the wonderful Chieko! <333333! This has to be the best song on any of her albums/singles. I have nothing to complain about and that's a good thing. Go Chieko! GO!

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

This song is so damned repetitive. So...whiney...I think I may be the only person who doesn't really like this song.

Placement

Not used in the show.

Memorable

Only because I have the PV of the song. The video is very cool - the song by itself is not. 'Nuf said.

Lyrics

When are you going to answer me or look at me
I won't be thinking about our memories together
"Maybe tomorrow" I'll remember all of this
One of these days gonna say goodbye
Say Goodbye
One of these days gonna say goodbye

So, I see that the idea of feminism has still not reached Japanese or American pop culture. I am so sick of this subservient woman in the relationship crap. If you don't like him, Kawabe, why put up with the crap? I don't care how important some guy is. If he's a slob and he's an idiot, you don't put up with it. You don't consider saying goodbye tomorrow, or in a few days. You do it NOW. Grrr. I am really getting impatient with the Japanese feminine ideal that women are subservient quiet little flowers too pathetic to do anything for themselves. Then again, I might just be looking into this too much.

Overall Rating

The song is repetitive, and I don't like the message it portrays.

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

It's an excellent song with very well done music arrangements. Kind of a ballad, the song has tranquil moments and then, the music goes to the "not-so-ballad" part of the song, that's the chorus. I also like the "lala" chorus in the background and the beginning of the song.

Placement:

You can find this song in her third single and in "Brilliance".

Memorable:

By far, one of the best songs Chieco has released. I haven't heard the album, but this song has mature lyrics, and music. You can see that Chieco can be very versatile; the contrast to this song could be the Hillary Duff's cover "I can't wait" were the lyrics and music are kind of childish. With her third single, Chieco told us that even she is just turning 18, she isn't a little girl anymore, that she has grown and so her music.

Lyrics:

I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! The chorus parts:

When are you going to answer me or look at me?
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning
One of these days gonna say goodbye
Say Goodbye
One of these days gonna say goodbye

"I won't forget" your heart decides, but when are you going to take action?
I'm going to deny these memories when I can
Even you don't know all the answers, do you?
Say Goodbye
Say Goodbye
One of these days gonna Say Goodbye

The lyrics are just perfect. It's a perfect song to sing if your boyfriend/girlfriend cheated on you, or even if you are coming out of a bad relationship. This song can cheer you up (or maybe the lyrics ^^ ;)! They tell us that we aren't going to stay weeping all day for our lost no! The song invites us to think that we are ok, that we don't need that person to go on, that we can find true love in someone else that it is his or her lost; we ain't gonna cry no more.

Overall Rating:

Everything for Chieco is five stars, I just love here, and this song is definitely in my "Chieco's top 5". 5 STARS! XDDD

Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin

TONE/MOOD:

Hmmm a whole lotta "la-la" at the beginning. Is it just me, or does the bass sound like someone dropping the mic on the ground? The rhythm is okay. Jazzy, which I like. Oo the chorus is pretty. Reminds me a little of my darling Ayumi Hamasaki. Pretty predictible tune, but enjoyable.

PLACEMENT:

Kawabe Chieko's Kizunairo

MEMORABLE:

Not really. Doesn't stand out to me.

LYRICS:

The lyrics appear to be about warning her lame-ass boyfriend "One of these days [I'm] gonna say goodbye" but it's confusing. Seems like he's leaving their small town for better things:

"Do you know when you'll be here today? Can't you face me?
With his back to me and the clouds of his heart clearing up
You raise your hand in goodbye to your home town

When are you going to answer me or look at me
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning"

So... what's the deal Cheico? Why do you care? Doesn't seem like he really IS your boyfriend after all. I say for you to "say goodbye" right now. The lyrics don't make a lot of sense to me.

"Everyone says "Who is going to pick up after him?" but
That "He's so important" in my neighborhood
Now I'm after your response
I can't see the future but I have this feeling"

What does that even mean??? The neighbourhood is wondering who will take care of him? Is that a common worry when someone leaves home? You're after his response? HUH? Move on girl...

OVERALL RATING:

3... It's just average.

Zoicite - Ephie

Tone/Mood:

The first parts give a hanging out feeling, but as soon as it hits that chorus, y'all, I fall in love. I'm still not crazy about the verses melody, but the feeling I get with the chorus, it's fabulous. I'm picturing myself hanging out with my friends at this arcade and market, a fair distance from our houses, at about 1 in the morning, like we used to do before we had a good deal of repsonisbilites. Gives a very nostalgic feeling, for me.

Placement:

Cheiko's cd, once again!

Memorable:

I'm not sure if I'll remember this song right off the bat, but it has great potential for when I learn the lyrics.

Lyrics:

Yesterday's "goodbye" was different

I love love love this line. I find it showing how a relationship could change, and I see a lot of frustration in this one line, as well. I almost see it as her trying to break up with her beloved, who seems like a real winner, but it just won't come out the way she wants, she can't bring herself to actually say it, and is hanging on to suggestive tones. At least as far as my over analization goes.

Overall Rating:

I think this song deserves a 3, mostly for the nostaligic value. It's wanting me to really get out there and learn the lyrics.

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

Another popish song. I love the beat to it, and how she sings it. It has a great melody and the way the instruments move in it is awsome.

Placement

N/A

Memorible

I think this is one of her better songs. I has a cool sound to it, so I find this to be more more memorible than her other tunes.

Lyrics

I Love the words to this song, because I can relate to this song,

When are you going to answer me or look at me I won't be thinking about our memories together "Maybe tomorrow" I'll remember all of this One of these days gonna say goodbye Say Goodbye One of these days gonna say goodbye

The words have so much backing them, at least with me. I love them!

Overall

Kick ass! a 5!! I love the song, the beat, and the words. Thumbs up all the way, baby!

Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto

Mood:

Very vocal. The music gets out of the way and lets Chieco do her thing. I'd like to hear her go full a capella one of these days, but meanwhile, we have this. Unfortunately, the tune itself is nothing brilliant.

Placement:

The title track of a single. I don't care for singles, they seem like a ripoff compared to full albums. Well, they would if I actually bought music.

Memorable:

No. At least not from the opening or the tune. The only way to remember it is from the "Say goodbye" part.

Lyrics:

Boring in English, boring in Japanese. Seriously if you ever wanted to experience memory erasure a la Men in Black, just read these lyrics, then look away. You won't remember a thing you've read.

Overall:

Come for the voice, but not for anything else. Two.

Sailor Mars - Akarui

Tone/Mood

I'm kinda sad when listening to this. Some odd feeling... I don't know much japanese, but the "say goodbye" and "sayonara" made me feel all weird o.o ... it's like I'm listening to the song and could almost cry at some points!

Placement

Not placed on PGSM. Deserves a great concert with fans waving lit candles or something...

Memorable

This one will probably be burnt in my mind for quite some time! I'm going to try and learn it by heart, cause I just love it.

Lyrics

The music and the lyrics do match.

I'm going to deny these memories when I can
Even you don't know all the answers, do you?

I like the first sentence. Like Chieco is going to try and forget as much as possible cause it's so painful...

Overall Rating

5 hearts! This one gets a high 5. It makes Chieco sound quite mature, a beautiful voice flowing with the music... plus, she's really great in the video for this song.

Sailor Pluto - Ciao

Tone/Mood

It's almost got a hip hop feel to it. Makes me wanna get up and dance to the music *grins* I love this song in my car with all the windows down and blasting on my new stereo system. I can tell ya, it turns heads. *grins*

Placement

Not in the the series.

Memorable

Oh definitely memorable. This is one of the songs that always played (until I changed CDs) when I took my son to school, and oddly enough, when I picked him up as well. It's one of his favourites and I always hear something by her on his computer at night, as he listens to music to help him sleep.

Lyrics

I don't have access to the lyrics at the moment so I can't really say, but they sound in keeping with the musical style, nothing too over the top. I can't really understand much, but I can hear the words, which is rare, given that I'm hearing impaired. A lot of singers sound like they're mumbling or something (to me) so this is great. It's nice to be able to at least hear the words, even if I have no clue what she means.

Overall Rating

I'd give it a 5/5. This is an EXCELLENT driving song *grins* and her songs are really good for long distances. Even hubby doesn't mind them. I think J-pop is growing on him hehehehe...

Sailor V - Jessica

Tone/Mood

The mood seems quite mellow and the tone rather angst-ridden, but the tone seems to pick up into more confident statements and a mood that leaves behind the perhaps darker beginning. The song has a pretty good beat to it, but it doesn't seem to be something to dance to. The track has an 'I'm over this' feel to it.

Placement

None

Memorable

I really like this track and it was the second video I saw of Kawabe Chieco; I always remember the piece where she's clinging to the railing and singing. I think it would be more memorable if you could personally relate to it more, so its going to depend on the experiences of the listener as to whether its particularly memorable for them or not.

Lyrics

When are you going to answer me or look at me?
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning.
One of these days gonna say goodbye,
Say Goodbye,
One of these days gonna say goodbye

I find these particularly interesting as the final lines seem more of a threat here than anywhere else. It's a 'you can only push me so far' moment. Its as if the subject of the song has put all the effort into the relationship and has nothing in return; she's had enough, she'll move on if he doesn't make a move.

Overall Rating

3/5

Nephrite - Frosted_Rain

Tone/Mood

The song has a nice introduction (with all those La la la la thingie). It's a very good song to hear but once you know the meaning of it, it will definitely give you the creeps like me. A very dark song from Chieko. Even the PV of this song is really creepy.

Placement

None at all

Memorable

The PV gave me the creeps. All those reminising and darkness, sad memories of happy things... Totally dark and complex.

Lyrics

When are you going to answer me or look at me
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning
One of these days gonna say goodbye
Say Goodbye

"Being forgotten is more painful than dying." - from Battle Royale 2: Requiem

Yesterday's "goodbye" was different.
One of these days gunna say goodbye

Lots of goodbyes for this song. Painful and creepy

Overall Rating

Wow, Chieko sang such a song which i can call creepy. 4 hearts for this song. I love the way she sang her voice. The bad thing is, it gave me the creeps once knowing the meaning of the song. (@_@)

Sailor Uranus - G.E.Artemis

Tone/Mood:

The background music is rather sparse, especially at the beginning, but I like it. This song is a good opportunity for Chieko to show off her incredible vocal talent, especially since there aren’t many background vocals.

Placement:

Kawabe Chieko’s Kizunairo.

Memorable:

It is to me! I believe this is the first song of Chieko’s that I heard, and I’ll always remember it for that.

Lyrics:

When are you going to answer me or look at me
I won't be thinking about our memories together all morning
One of these days gonna say goodbye
Say goodbye

The whole story of the song seems to be about a boyfriend+girlfriend with some relationship issues, which makes sense to me. And the say goodbye part sounds like she’s giving up and moving on.

Rating:

I don’t know, I just love this song. The vocals especially.
