ARCHIVED HTML - Koi Suru Soldier - A Soldier Who Loves

Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse
Tone/mood
A helicopter. That's the first I think when I hear this. They used a lot of sounds effects in this song isn't? The melody is okay. It's catchy. The beat is more active than slow I think. Chisaki/Rika can sing fantastically. I like her voice. It's very soft like the summer breeze ( how poetic)!Placement
Not in series, because it isn't related to pgsm!Memorable
Yes, I think it is. Because of Chisaki's summer breeze. ( I just don't get why she changed her name in Rika!) Not memorable because of the lyrics. The same like all lyrics I read before. Love, attract boys etc (I don't get why the girls always have to attract the boys). But there also funny parts.Lyrics
When I crack a smile, my cheeks bring unwanted attention to my faceI hate looking in the mirror! Oh, I want to be pretty!
While I'm that way, my darling looks like an outlaw, he's sexy
A straightforward, honest guy with a great sense of humor
I thought he was only teasing me as he half-jokingly approached
When he confessed his feelings, it was a secret bazooka blast!
I like the lyrics. Especially the mirror-thingy. It's describes the life of a normal girl who falls in love. I don't get why they gave the song the name "Koi suru soldier".
Overall rating
Err, right. Hard to pick. 4/5 hearts? I'll give it 5! I like the melody very much. And Chisaki's/Rika's summer breeze!
Sailor Mercury - Topaz
Tone/Mood
Starts with a chopper and a count down. The mood is happy and chipper. Hama voice is nice and make you to want to nod with the music. The sound of the song repeats a lotMemorable
I would say yes. It has a different sound to it. And to my standard of if a song is memorable or not is if you can hit the replay button and not get sick. I can safely say I would not grow to sick of.Lyrics
"Beautiful girl in a miniskirt sighted,"I am unsure if this songs lyrics are as if she was a sailor senshi or something else. But overall this song is about a girl that thinks she is not cute. But there is this boy she likes.
"He looks like an outlaw, he's sexy. A straightforward, honest guy with a great sense of humor."
He one day tell her he has feelings. Can she believe this? Not wanting to be just a flavor of the week she will not tell him her feelings. Instead she says how that boy is cute or how much she likes a movie star. Its as if she is trying make him hate her so she does not get hurt.
"I want us to stay together, and I'm scared he'll lose interest
Even though we're dating, I'm always thinking of tactics
Love isn't supposed to be a war, but
Falling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up"
If the girl would just share her feelings she would be happy
Overall Rating
I give this a 3. Is different and that's what draws me to the song.
Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin
Tone/Mood
That goddamn helicopter sound. Oh, and now Chisaki is talking to us. Sounds like she's on some sort of loudspeaker. The song feels... average as I'm listening. She doesn't sound very enthused in her singing. Hahaha she just said sexy in engrish. The song really doesn't inspire me. It's not a bad song, but it's the sort of thing you would expect on a character single, not on her actual CD.Placement
On Chisaki's CD - not in the series. Thank goodness.Memorable
No. No no no.Lyrics
It's kinda a surprise when you find out what she's saying in her "loudspeaker announcement." Get this."Beautiful girl in a miniskirt sighted, ahead three hundred meters diagonally to the right Planning to arrive in his line of sight in five seconds... Three, two, one!!!"
What the hell? Now that I think about it, the whole song has an element of being in war. Which makes sense with the title... I guess. I mean... all Soldiers love. No surprise there "Rika". Moving on...
"I don't want to be just another one of the girls he brushes off
I absolutely won't compliment him, saying I like him or think he's cool"
Yeah, you wouldn't want to actually tell him how you feel. That'd be baaaaad news. If he brushes girls off, maybe you should find someone else? Wait a second... wasn't her intro to the song as though she were talking to a guy? Ahhh I see! Chisaki is playing for both teams! She's checking out hot guys and girls in miniskirts.
"I want us to stay together, and I'm scared he'll lose interest
Even though we're dating, I'm always thinking of tactics"
What? You're dating him? So you're dating a guy and you won't tell him you like him? No big surprise he'll lose interest.
Also, towards the end she gives a very unenthusiastic "Ah!" so it's worth listening to once just for that.

Princess Serenity - Elly
Tone/Mood
Typical JPOP. The opening with the helicopter gives you hope for a decent song. Unfourtunately, this song never shapes up into being what it promotes. Damn you, Chisaki!Placement
Again, thank GOD this wasn't in PGSM. This is probably even worse than Kanojo wa Ijiwaru.Memorable
Only because it is the title track of Koi Suru Soldier. Chisaki fans will remember it for that alone. The song itself doesn't stick out in your mind at all.Lyrics
Love isn't supposed to be a war, butFalling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up
I agree with you there, Chisaki. Married couples and long term relationship members can attest to this. After a while, you want to prove the other one wrong, if for nothing else for the fun of it. Admitting defeat SUCKS, especially over little things. Personally, I remember a little tiff between Tim and I between the definitions of acceleration and velocity (don't ask). I got my definitions completely wrong (which was sad, since I was taking physics at the time, and Tim STILL hasn't taken that class) and didn't want to admit to it, if only to avoid the gloating on Tim's part. Good thing Tim doesn't read this website at all, because he'll never know I'm admitting to it here =)
Overall Rating
Again, I like the subject-matter of the song a lot more than how it is presented. Chisaki, stay away from half-way decent songs, you just ruin them ;_;
Sailor Neptune - Ruth
Tone/Mood
Techno galore here with off beat music to boot. >.< Chisaki, why?!!! Yes you can sing, but what the heck ARE YOU singing here?! The song does not fit your voice and is just horrible to hear! The beat sounds like it was done in 10 minutes and the director made her sing these awful lyrics. Poor Chisaki-san!Placement
-----Memorable
Blah. No not at all. This song sucks and I don't know why I have it. Wait yes I do, I wanted to know what her solo project sounded like. Poor me. LOL! You would have to be a real Chisaki fan who doesn't care for nonsense music like this. I don't get the drums used in this song at all. It just makes this song so much worse.Lyrics
"Beautiful girl in a miniskirt sighted, ahead three hundred meters diagonally to the right Planning to arrive in his line of sight in five seconds... Three, two, one!!!"WTF?!!! This makes absolutly NO sense to me. And this is the beginning of the song! Oi! After reading all of the lyrics, it's safe to assume that the writer had no clue as to what to write so he/she made them up along with the awful beat. @__@

0 hearts. I don't think this deserved anything! That's how bad I think it is. Sorry to all those who may have liked this song but come on! How can this be a top rated song?! Blah again!
Sailor V - Jessica
Mood/Tone
Oh dear Gods. All too hyper. Voice all too cute and high. Perky, happy, scarily so. Can't cope. Maybe this one is for younger people to dance to or something. Somebody should have stopped this song reaching this level of perky-ness.Placement
None (thankfully)Memorable
As a good song? No. As a scary song on the same level as 'Over Rainbow Tour'? Yes. Memorable only for the urge to hit 'stop' on the media player.Lyrics
Love isn't supposed to be a war, butFalling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up
These are probably the only lyrics in the whole song that I like. They seem more grown up than the rest and just don't fit the rest of the song, or the tone! More lyrics along these lines could probably have helped the track a lot
Overall Rating
0/5 - Can't cope with listening to it.
Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan
Tone/Mood:
No I can't review this song, it's horrible! What were they thinking with the helicopter!!! Hama has a beautiful voice and it is wasted on this song. I can't even say this is JPOP because there are better songs than this. The music's bad, the helicopter sound sucks and her voice sound like if she had some kind of flu or something.Placement:
Did anyone buy her single?!Memorable:
No! This song can only be remembered because of how bad it is! I thought, Hama's manager thought: "Oh! PGSM is a blast! Let's make her an idol singer". They could have done a better job in her solo performance but they just did a very bad and low quality production. I think Mercury's single would have been a better beginning for Hama as a solo singer than these two bad, bad, BAD songs.Lyrics:
I agree with Elly in this part of the song, which is the only good thing of it:Love isn't supposed to be a war, but
Falling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up
Sometimes, when you are in a long-term relationship, love stops being a passion, and starts becoming a competition, in which you have to prove you're better than your partner. I think that if your love is pure, you won't have problems in your relationship (just the normal stuff XD).
Overall Rating:
Just for being Chisaki one star. Sorry Hama! Your voice is good, your performance as Mercury was excellent as well as her image songs but this is just blah
Sailor Mars - Akarui
Tone/Mood
This puts me in the "Dammit" mode. It's like someone hating Britney Spears and hearing her songs. It has a sorta happy feel but... not my cup of tea ^^;;Placement
Not on the show, and not often on my playlist either. Maybe later when I dare to try again ?Memorable
Memorable as in "Help me I want to run away, they could have made her sing something along the lines of the Chieco songs o.O ..." . It's not that I hate hate hate the song, but it will stay in my mind as "it doesn't do justice to Chisaki's voice".Lyrics
I'd much rather he hate me than be indifferent toward meEven if his face is angry, I want him to show it to me
I want us to stay together, and I'm scared he'll lose interest
Even though we're dating, I'm always thinking of tactics
Love isn't supposed to be a war, but
Falling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up
I mean... ahem... sorry, I cannot really comment on this. Ah, wait... *looks at Chisaki's age again* . Aaaaaaah. She's supposed to be of "this" age after all. Whoops.
*that, and the music arrangement could have been much better >.<*
Overall Rating
A 3. Cause it doesn't do justice to Chisaki's voice, cause the lyrics, are, well, not my cup of tea, AND because the overall song is quite weird. Those little sound effects... *cringes* ahem, anyway, if you're a Chisaki fan like me, maybe you could be disappointed, but it's not a reason for me to tell you don't listen to it XD . I'm sure there are people who will like this song.
Sailor Uranus - Nickole
Tone/Mood:
This song has a sort of rockish, popish, techno mood and sound to it, which gives it a sort of different twist to it.Placement:
Its not in PGSM.Memorable:
A little, I guess. Its got an okay beat, and the lyrics are a little catchy at points.Lyrics:
When I crack a smile, my cheeks bring unwanted attention to my faceI hate looking in the mirror! Oh, I want to be pretty!
While I'm that way, my darling looks like an outlaw, he's sexy
A straightforward, honest guy with a great sense of humor
These lyrics depict typical teenage girl problems! ;)
Overall Rating:
I'll give this one a 3, because its not the best, but its still not the worst. I personally think that Chisaki could have done better with a different song. This song, just didnt "Click" with me.
Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto
Mood:
Thin is the word that comes to mind. They're trying for a soaring anthem and a pop song at the same time and the latter wins the war. Keeping Chisaki to a lower range helps with her singing problems. The funny "Aa" and "Uu" syllables at the end of the choruses add a nice touch. But the synth-trumpets and weak drums make one feel that if this is referencing the army, "don't ask, don't tell" is strongly in effect.Placement:
On Chiaski's single. Hmm. . . one song is about fighting, the other's about being a bitch. Think she's trying to tell us something?Memorable:
The only memorable part of this is the helicopter sound right at the beginning, which is usually my cue to hit the next song button on my mp3 player. Funny, I always thought it sounded more like a helicopter weather forecast than a tactical speech.Lyrics:
But it is all war metaphors as relates to love, and that's a bit creepy. The initial lyrics referencing sighting a pretty girl in a mini-skirt from a chopper are odd coming from Chisaki. Could she be trying to tell us something?Overall:
Marginally better than the other song on the single, but nowhere near what you'd call quality. One.
Sailor Luna - Emo-chan
Tone/Mood
This sounds like an Ami song. The opening is really cute, and I like the upbeat sound to it.Placement
N/A, but I wouldve liked to have heard this song in PGSM somewhere!Lyrics

Its a cute idea and a neat comparison.

I also like how she speaks of insecurities that all of us girls have about wanting to be pretty enough for the guys we like.

Im giving this a 4! Its not as good as Mi Amor but I like it a lot more than some of her other songs.

One thing we learn from multiplication is when we multiply any number to zero is equals zero (5*0=0). THIS IS ZERO!!! no score!!! I thought Chisaki would be great because she sang pretty well on her PGSM Character CD. But please, no more!!! Just do your modelling and cuteness... no more singing... please....
Kuroki Mio - Kara
TONE/MOOD:
This song wants to be energetic SO badly. I can tell it wants to be upbeat and big and full of life, but it just sinks down below that somehow. I'm not sure what's missing, because I've heard Rika (I remember her as Hama Chisaki, but I'm adjusting) be full of life and energy before, both in her acting and in her singing. I'm inclined to say the orchestration is lacking - the plain acoustic piano wasn't a good choice here.PLACEMENT:
From Hama Chisaki's 'Koi Suru Soldier' singleMEMORABLE:
Well, memorable in that it's earworm fodder. But not something I would CHOOSE to have stuck in my head.LYRICS:
These are actually kind of cute, and they're the song's saving grace. 'Love is a battlefield,' and all that, as another song once told us. I do like the single's thene and how the lyrics play into that.I'm always creating cheap hand grenades to lob at him
OVERALL RATING:
Three hearts out of five, bumped up from two because I'm a shameless Rika fan and I enjoy the lyrics. But I just can't be doing with this orchestration.
Sailor Jupiter - Joy Azama
Tone/Mood
I first heard this song after I downloaded it through this website, and playing it in my laptop while I write a song review. I think Hama's 'Kanojo wa Ijiwaru' was way better than this song. I was pretty excited to hear this song because I was not impressed with the first one (Kanojo wa ijiwaru) I listened to. However, yet again, Hama disappointed me even more with this one. Sad to say, of all the songs that I've heard on this month's songs, Hama is the weakest among the three singers featured. So, I'm just keeping in mind that she's the youngest and is new to the business. For these reasons, she might be excused due to lack of experience and development. Maybe someday she'll improve and be a better singer. This song is okay for me, not much reaction, it does not make me do anything. Just plain neutral for me.Placement
Not placed in the PGSM series, only on CD. Memorable Not memorable for me, I'd skip it in a jiff.Lyrics

Another typical teen song, this one featuring a tactic girls often use to show stability and strength to the boy they are attracted to. The lyrics are actually fun, more like a Girl Power message. For me, this could fit Hama in the future. I still think that she is way too young to think such things, but that's just me (I'm oriented to a different culture and upbringing, so in this aspect, people will naturally have different perceptions or opinions ^_^). I loved the strength the lyrics are bringing to the audience, makes me want to smile after reading it.

2 out of 5 hearts. No further comment, I think I've written pretty much every thought I have for this song above.
Prince Endymion - Alex
Tone/Mood:
Hama Chisaki's first two songs were not the best, so I though that "Koi Suru Soldier" will be much better than them... Unfortunatelly, I am totally wrong. This peace starts with a helipocter sound but it's nothing special. It made me think that the song will be great, but... The sound (in fact the melody also) is monotonous and the the voice of Chisaki just doesn't fit that song. In fact, she doesn't sing - she mostly speaks.Placement:
I am happy that it wasn't put in PGSM!Memorable:
No. I love Sailor Mercury, but I DO hate "Koi Suru Soldier"! It's a boring and monotonous song which doesn't attracts me.Lyrics:
I've said it before, but I have to say it again. I don't speak Japaniese and I don't understand PGSM songs' lyrics. BUT if I like the melody, I don't mind if the lyrics sound silly. Well, this means that even if "Koi Suru Soldier"'s lyrics are good, they will not make me like the song. Anyway, after reading them, I can only say that the lyrics don't attract me.Overall Rating:
1 heart for Chisaki's song. >.< I'd rate it with 0 hearts, but... I respect Chisaki TOO much!!
Kunzite - Loreal
Tone/Mood:
Why is there a helicopter in this song? It made me want to have some sort of war flash back. I don't care for this song. This song sounds like it was just thrown together and her voice sounds off from it. It sounds like a midi song.Placement:
None that I am aware of. ( And that's a good thing)Memorable:
That helicopter is a warning sign. It's like "Warning: shut off your speakers now! Save Yourself!"Lyrics:
I thought he was only teasing me as he half-jokingly approached When he confessed his feelings, it was a secret bazooka blast!A secret bazooka blast. Need I say more?
Overall rating:
This song gets a 1. The song sounds like it was just thrown together so they could sell it and make money.
Sailor Pluto - Ciao
Tone/Mood
The tone of the song is a bit defiant and upbeat, but I just find the song very annoying. It did the first time I heard it months ago, and it still does now. It's one of those songs you wish was over about 4 bars in.Placement
As far as I'm aware, it wasn't in the series.Memorable
It's memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. I didn't like it to start with and deliberately left it for the last to review because of it. I see that it hasn't improved much over the months of not listening to it. All I can say is that she has vastly improved over the songs she did earlier, as opposed to the ones she does now, where her voice is infinitely better, and the song choice is as well.Lyrics
The lyrics are fine, it's just the music and the tune I can't stand. It's like the lyrics and the music are fighting it out instead of the people being mentioned in the song, and they both come out poor losers.Overall Rating
This is definitely the worst song she's done that I have reviewed. I give it a generous 1/5 hearts, mainly for the above reasons. I just really dislike this song and don't feel it did Hama-san's talents any justice.
Sailor Uranus - G.E.Artemis
Tone/Mood:
Those damned helicopter noises! XD Strange loudspeaker intro…the background music sounds like a theme song for a racing game. The singing isn’t very good-at points it’s rather monotonous, and points where it goes off-tune. It’s rather catchy, though. Near the end there are a lot of random sound effects, which are pretty pointless.Placement:
Chisaki’s single, Koi Suru Soldier.Memorable:
No, not really. Nothing really stands out in this song to me, except the helicopter sounds.Lyrics:
Love isn't supposed to be a war, butFalling for someone is defeat, the way the battle is set up
Yeah, this part of the lyrics makes sense. I can understand the message they’re trying to give, but the rest of the lyrics are much too generic to be taken seriously.
Rating:
I’m actually being pretty generous with this rating. Despite this, I listen to this song because it amuses me greatly. XD
