Leave Me Alone

Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse

Tone/Mood

The beginning is a little bit strange. It was hard to recognize de melody when I first heard it. This is really like all other pop. I don't get why Kawabe Chieco isn't famous in other countries next to Japan. The refrain is also a bit unexpected. The song jumps suddenly from the one to another piece of it. And they have almost their own melody! Leave me alone. Just get out, let me be who I am! Nice! Very nice work Kawabe! The ending is the same as the beginning.

Placement

On (your shined on my) Brilliance!

Memorable

For this section, I have to take the lyrics with it. They are not really special, so it isn't really memorable. It is to me, but for others, I have like always no idea.

Lyrics

"Not like a girl" what are those criteria?
Not understanding well, but it's a decided thing
"That's so for everyone" Who and who is everyone?
Looking over into the world, and preparing a thought that slipped off.

A voice flying about the prowling streets that isn't intimacy
I depended on the past frequently, continuing to run
I've been searching for my true self consecutively

LEAVE ME ALONE
Approximately, the unsmoked breath is breathed in
Heavy worries that are no more than one cell
LEAVE ME ALONE
Shy tears come forth
I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow

I think this is the "crybaby" theme. The lyrics are fine!

Overall rating

4th 5 heart rating for this month. I guess it's going to be a month like the March reviews. Go Kawabe, go Kawabe, góooooooooo KAWABE!

Sailor Mercury - Topaz

Tone/Mood

this just sounds repetitive. It trys to have a strong feel to it then a soft caring feel. It just doesn't fit. the singer sounds great but the words just all sound the same><

Placement

N/A

Memorable

no way, i don't like this song and i really do want to remember this song.

Lyrics

The singer talks about having lots of pain and running from it. Trying to find herself and to forget about the pain she had to deal with. as he loos for herself she does find what she seeks and feel stronger.

Overall Rating

A zero. I love her songs but this one, yuk! it just sounds so..., so... , not good

Zoicite - Ephie

Tone/Mood:

When first hearing the title, I'm thinking of a little cafe that used to be here by the same name. Too bad I never had a chance to go before they closed. It starts out slow, but feels as if it has potential to speed up to a very upbeat song, but then doesn't, a pleasant surprise. I can see the melody getting a little difficult to follow, but I like the variations and how it keeps you on your toes a bit, as it doesn't go the predictable route.

Placement:

And her CD wins again!

Memorable:

Besides the name with which the cafe shares it with, I don't know if it's really that memorable. It's kind of hard to get the hang of the music, and it's just kind of there. I very much enjoy the very beginning of the song, though.

Lyrics:

So I asked for something different in lyrics, but this isn't exactly what I meant. To me, they almost seem like incomplete thoughts, a lot of them. It just doesn't make all that much sense to me. Well, it does and it doesn't, but maybe if they told more of a story than just be there.

Overall rating:

I think this one gets a 2. I don't hate it, but the lyrics are jumbly to me, and the tune isn't great for remembering except when she sings out "LEAVE ME ALONE" every three lines.

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

Ah, good. Chieko is breaking off into more acoustic stuff again. I really do prefer this. I consider synthesized music to be a plus for people who NEED that support to their voice, but she needs a natural sound to accentuate her natural strengt. It has sort of an anime ending sound to it, too. But the one way to sum this up would be sad optimism. It's an interesting mix, and one she does well.

PLACEMENT:

Kawabe Chieko's 'Brilliance' album.

MEMORABLE:

Definitely.

LYRICS:

I described this song's mood before as 'sad optimism.' For example:

LEAVE ME ALONE
Shy tears come forth
I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow

And, more than that:

"Something is different" I became aware of it
"Something is ready" my face rises

I feel sorry for the 'character' portrayed in the song, and yet and at the same time I get the feeling that she'll come through, as sad as she is. The lyrics portray an interesting persona: someone who's been told what she ought to be, and is trying instead to be who she really is.

OVERALL:

5 out of 5. This isn't the song I expected it to be, and I was pleasantly surprised. Chieko needs to do more like this.

Sailor Pluto - Ciao

Tone/Mood

This song is quite different from the first 2 I reviewed (Brilliance and Over) in that it starts off almost....alternative music sounding, and gets almost a rock feel to it in the chorus. I really like the versatility she's showing here. The tone and mood are a bit darker (to me) but not dragging the song down.

Memorable

I think that this is easily the most suited to my tastes at the moment than any other song I've reviewed and I most certainly will go to bed with this melody (and the lyrics) in my head.

Lyrics

The opening of the song easily has my favourite lines of all time. ' "That's how it is for everyone" Well who says so?' Exactly. That is how I feel all the time too, and I don't believe it one bit either *laughs* Finally someone who sees things the same way I do. Sometimes it helps to have a slightly skewed look at things to see things how they really are...

Overall Rating

Can I give it a 10/5? *laughs* Easily my favourite song and it shows her versatility as singer, not sticking to the bubblegum pop or dance stuff. *grumbles* Oke, 5/5 it is....

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone Mood

Hmmm....it's somewhat angst/popish. Wierd. I don't care for this song so there's not much to say for the tone/mood.

Placement

Not used in PGSM.

Memorable

Not for me. Sorry guys, but this song just screams...."blah" to me. Yeah, some parts of nice but all in all I just don't like the song.

Lyrics

"LEAVE ME ALONE
Approximately, the unsmoked breath is breathed in
Heavy worries that are no more than one cell
LEAVE ME ALONE
Shy tears come forth
I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow"

As the lyrics or great, the song is not. But that's not the point. The above mentioned are quite lovely and make a whole lot of sense. Though it makes me wonder why most Japanese songs (not just Chieko's) have English....*shrugs*

Back on topic.

Chieko is clearly hurting over a past flame and wishes the guy would just "LEAVE ME ALONE". She's had it up to here *points up to head level* with this guy and she's telling him she's moving on.

Overall Rating

I give this song a 2 out of five. Not liking the song. But since Chieko is singing it I gave it a two.

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

This song has a beautiful and yet sad feel to it. Her voice shines through in this song, I think. It sounds very heartfelt.

Placement

Memorible

I think this song has a great rate of being remembered. I really like the message put through it and the music alone.

Lyrics

I love the words! They are awsome.

"That's so for everyone" Who and who is everyone?

I like that line the best form the whole song because it poses such a great question that everyone can relate to in life.

"Deciding on what not to do" would it be good to decide before we do it? The strength that has a small chance with a friend. "Anyhow it's not a connection" isn't that a loss? If you open the lid, you'll look into a surprising world.

I loved that verse because it's a part that I can relate to.

Overall

A 5!! Woot! I really think this song diserves a five because of it's realistic lyrics, the beat and tone of the song, and because I like it!

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

Ok right now I'm on my messenger and Leave me alone is repeating in my Winamp so I like it already! This song was just another one filling my Winamp list, but now that I have listened to it like um 5 times, I like the tune and the rhythm. It is a peaceful tone, relaxing and very smooth.

Placement:

You can find this song in "Brilliance".

Memorable:

Even though I am starting to like the song I don't think it can be memorable. It is so relaxing and smooth that if you aren't listening to it carefully, you'll never know when it ended playing (you'll realize when the next song of your music list has like 2 minutes playing XD).

Lyrics:

But the lyrics are something different and cool. This song has different lyrics and has a nice subject: "Do whatever you want, not regarding what others may say". My favorite part:

"Deciding on what not to do" would it be good to decide before we do it?
The strength that has a small chance with a friend.
"Anyhow it's not a connection" isn't that a loss?
If you open the lid, you'll look into a surprising world.

Passing and repeating is insipid
Ascertaining my lost self's existence
Surely, I should be on time again

We should go always our way, be original but most important being ourselves. I like Chieko's music because they reflect social matters, such as love, society itself and our role inside of it, and also many other common things such as parties, fun and shopping! XD

Overall Rating:

I give this song 3/5. Good but not that good enough, it is missing that "Totally Chieko" thingy in the song.

Sailor V - Jessica

Tone/Mood

The song is pretty slow, but has a decent beat which speeds up at the chorus which prevents it becoming boring quickly. A lot of the notes of the verses seem to be of the same quality and register, so its nice to hear it pick up at the chorus'. I find the mood to be rather non-committal; despite the refrain of 'leave me alone', its not too angst ridden and seems neutral.

Placement

None in PGSM

Memorable

I do like it, even if it is a slower song, and find it memorable because I think, despite the lyrics, that's its neutral. I think it depends what mood you're in when you first hear it; whether you can relate or whether you think 'that's interesting' and not give it a second thought.

Lyrics

Leave me alone
Laughing as I extended my finger
I have a hunch that my hand reaches for a tall future
Leave me alone
Shy tears come forth
I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow

I interpret these as wanting to do something on your own, even in a crowd, or being left to move on by yourself. You just have to be left alone to get on with life at times.

3/5

Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin

Tone/Mood

Oooo it's angsty and very alt-pop sounding to start with. Hmm... another song that sounds very Ayumi Hamasaki-ish. Not that I think that's a bad thing. She's famous for a reason, right? The vocals are pretty soothing. The change in the music right before you hit the chorus is disorienting. The chorus gets things back on track though. It makes me feel funny for some reason. Happy and yet... sad. Like I shouldn't be happy... weird? Yeah.

Placement

On her CD

Memorable

Only if you're a fan of hers ^^

Lyrics

Sounds like she's arguing something her friend is saying? Everything he says seems to be the opposite of what she believes. Looks like she wants a relationship and he isn't sure. Bad news, that.

"Deciding on what not to do" would it be good to decide before we do it? The strength that has a small chance with a friend. "Anyhow it's not a connection" isn't that a loss? If you open the lid, you'll look into a surprising world.

Huh? There some other surprising world behind a lid? I'm sure it's a metaphor about opening your eyes to possibilities, but it seems funny. I do understand feeling upset that someone doesn't have the same connection with you that you feel for them.

Approximately, the unsmoked breath is breathed in Heavy worries that are no more than one cell LEAVE ME ALONE Shy tears come forth I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow

Ahhh yes. No more than 1 cell of worries folks! At least she left, albeit with great pains.

Overall Rating

3 - Average in my opinion, but not bad!

Nephrite - Frosted_Rain

Tone/Mood

Wow, what a nostalgic intro! Alternating tones from a higher pitch to a lower one. Wavy. Nice ending yah! Like those Flash animation gothic shorties.

Placement

Brillance CD

Memories

Reminds me of the song Leave Me Alone from The Corrs. But not a good thing to hear for broken-hearted persons reminiscing those painful words of "leave me alone" as a relationship comes to a bitter end.

Lyrics

"Something is different" I became aware of it
"Something is ready" my face rises

One can say something is different, if you're aware of it.

Overall Rating

4 out of 5 hearts for a wonderful mix of tones. The mix is great and savvy. Not as gothic as Kizunairo but it still falls from the gothic side.

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

Very cyberistic, quiet, and mellow. This song is soft and melodic; I really like it.

Placement

Brilliance by Kawabe Chieko

Memorable

Meh. I don't think it's very memorable. This is a nice background music song, but it isn't something I'd listen to at full volume in my car.

Lyrics

LEAVE ME ALONE
Laughing as I extended my finger
I have a hunch that my hand reaches for a tall future
LEAVE ME ALONE
Shy tears come forth
I left at great pains, waiting for tomorrow

Ehh, these lyrics are nothing special. They're pretty, but not interesting.

Overall Rating

3/5: This is an okay song. It's good background music.

Overall Rating

1 heart, plain and simple. There's nothing special about the song, and in my mind, it clashes terribly between verse and chorus. You'd be much better listening to some of her other songs, like Brilliance or Hoshi ni Negai wo, which have a clear definition of what style she's taking on.

Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto

Mood:

You know, when I got the Brilliance album, I was very disappointed. In a fair world, doing these reviews would produce some hidden gem that would redeem the album, and which I had simply misjudged on first listen. Well, Leave Me Alone is not that gem. It's (yet) a(nother) generic pop song which is just there to show off Chie-chan's vocals. Someone hire her a songwriter and give this kind of thing to newly-crowned American Idol winner Carrie Underwood Ham.

Placement:

On the Brilliance album, as I implied above. Weren't you listening? You should pay more attention.

Memorable:

Let's give it the lowest score among Brilliance tracks for memorable-ness. Either this or Over. Brilliance is the title track, tracks 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 11 are previous releases, Little Wing is a copy, and Pink!pink!pink! is the rap one. So it's easy to lose Leave me Alone in all that.

Lyrics:

OK, points are given here. Even if they're not entirely on point, the lyrics are about being an individual and wanting to be apart from and above the world. And that's me!

Overall:

The lyrics help, the placement doesn't. Leave Me Alone probably should have been a single, so its title is truly correct. As it is, two.

Queen Beryl - Molly

Tone/Mood

I'm not really sure how this song makes me feel. For a song titled "Leave Me Alone" it is a little to upbeat sounding for me to really get the proper feeling for it.

Memorable

The song is only memorable to me because of the music. The lyrics don't stick very well in my mind, because they are confusing. I can't decide whether it is a sad leave me alone, or a playful one.

Lyrics

The lyrics themselves are very confusing, and don't seem to stick well in my mind. I cannot decide whether they are full of pain, or looking for hope. They are however, despite the confusion with in them, very good with imagery. example (A voice flying about the prowling streets)

Overall Rating

I give this song a 3. The lyrics, are slightly confusing, but despite that, and the fact that it was hard to determine whether it was hopeful, or sad, the song is pretty good.

Sailor Saturn - Miri-chan

Tone/Mood

I opened the mp3 file and I was already shaking my head. The melody is way too random. The beginning and chorus and bridges totally contradict each other. The mix of instruments isn't exactly the best of choice for the song either. It's almost as if the songwriting staff took a bunch of genres, threw them into a mixing pot, and came up with a barely acceptable song.

Placement

On Kawabe Chieco's CD Brilliance.

Memorable

Not very memorable from my point of view. The melody is hard to follow and memorize. The best that I could get out were the words "Leave Me Alone".

Lyrics

Maybe it's just me, but the lyrics seem to contradict each other as well! The words can't decide exactly what point they want to get across! For example:

LEAVE ME ALONE
Laughing as I extended my finger
I have a hunch that my hand reaches for a tall future

Judging from these three lines from the chorus, it is rather hard to see whether the song is an angsty "Leave me alone, I'm tired of this" song, or a gentle "Please let me be independent" song. The rest of the lyrics aren't too well off, either.

Overall Rating
