Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse

Tone/Mood:

This is in the quiet riot style!!! All right, this is why I wanted to hear more from this style. I like it, only the refrain is a bit unexpected then Quiet Riot. The R&B style from Kawabe is relaxed, cool all positive things you can say to a song! Tell me what you want to do! Short en Clear. IT IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^.^ =)

Placement:

On the brilliance CD. Man, best thing Chieco ever did

Memorable:

We came to the hardest section in my review history. SO prepare. It's memorable for Chieco fans. But okay, ALL her songs are memorable for the loyal Chieco fans, like me! Yes, for other peoples, see for yourself! ^o^.

Lyrics:

I've been over you
Don't tell me what you want
What do you wanna do?

Shaking, unsure, that's just the way your smile is
The doorway to emotion doesn't make anything feel better
To care, this time things won't be better
This wish won't be waiting

Hey, I wonder what the future will bring
Hey, as of today I'm no longer scared of myself
I'm making sure you don't get near my heart
Near or far today was here
Inside, I get a feeling that I'll be here a while
I'm turning this into my own kind of pride
This is, probably, what you've been dillusional over
But you won't come down off it

I'm over you. Yeah!!!! Kawabe, this is what I like! I'm over you, I'm not a loser, I'm over you! Get lost! Mwahahaha!!!!!!! ^_^;; Sorry, I had to do that! These lyrics are tuff they are not for sweeties!

Overall rating:

I give it 5! Ok Kawabe, I want to see MORe and MORE of this style!!!

Sailor Mercury - Topaz

Tone/Mood

A techo beat fills the air as this song plays. You really can hear that clap sounds. A few time in the song the music does this down scale sound with the singing. Its really nice sounding. The bearjust really stands outs. makes you wanna do some pop lock moves.

Placement

N/A

Memorable

I would say yes. The down scale sound really stands out. And I can just see parapara being done to this or even DDR

Lyrics

Ok now i know this may sound off, but bear with me. When i read the words you really get the point she is trying to move on and keep her heart safe. But for some reason i can picture a thing with a wife and husband. The husband being the type that order his wife around and does not let her leave the house or anything. Ok maybe i just be watch Maruy to much ><

Overall Rating

I give this a 4. I like the techo sound. I just need to go play DDR now. BYE!

Zoicite - Ephie

Tone/Mood:

Now this is what I'm talking about! And there is no rapper guy! I love the techno feel to this song, and it actually reminds me a lot of Utada Hikaru's style, but I find myself appreciating Chieko's voice so much more.

Placement:

Chieko's CD

Memorable:

I do like this one, but right when it gets into the chorus, I keep thinking it'll flash back into Quiet Riot. I think I do like that song more, melody wise, but it has that one part in it I simply do not appreciate at all.

Lyrics:

I like these ones, though I am seeing an awful trend of love songs where you have to rise up above it all and be strong. I love the theme, I just wish there was more variety. That being said, I like how the line: "For example we'll start with what I see/You're the only one who's ever looked for me" actually gives the guy a chance and reason why it was started, instead of "You're a loser, I'm leaving you kthxbi. Loser."

Overall rating:

I think this one gets a 3. As I stated above, I do like Quiet Riot's melody line better, but I appreciate this song so much more without the rap, and that earns it the extra point.

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

This is a rewrite of 'Quiet Riot,' musically. I don't mean in the way that 'Cry Baby' and 'Little Wing' are the same song. I mean, it just sounds so much like it that there's really no point.

PLACEMENT:

Kawabe Chieko's 'Brilliance' album.

MEMORABLE:

Not really.

LYRICS:

These are your classic 'I Will Survive' lyrics, which is fine. There were a few nice lines that stood out:

I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that
Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of strength

The future holds no ties with me Perhaps it's the English major in me wanting to overanalyze, but I feel like this song is pretty much a lie. That doesn't makes it wrong, but I think there are levels to it that come out in the performance. I don't believe this girl is over this guy. This song is a lie she's perpetuating to herself ... and even if I don't like anything else about this song, that much is intriguing.

OVERALL:

2 out of 5 hearts for the lyrics and the presence of Chieko. But that's all I'm willing to give it.

Sailor Pluto - Ciao

Tone/Mood

Despite the dance beat, it's a song saying a relationship is over. It sounds very...final and definitive in that she's made up her mind that she's not going to dwell on the past, moving forward. Wish I could do the same *sighs* but yeah, it's a good dance song for all that. The mood set by the song is one of strength under pressure.

Memorable

This song reminds me of a song that Jordan Knight did in the late 90s (or was it early 2Ks?) in the syncopated backbeat. It's cool and would make an excellent breakdancing or Euro-dance track.

Lyrics

The lyrics are those which any girl who's been in a relationship and had it go sour on her will be familiar with. Basically she's saying what's in every sad, yet determined-to-get-over-it person's heart/mind. That's the impression I get from the lyrics anyway. They fit the music well with the syncopated beats matching the syncopated lyrics and melody.

Overall Rating

A strong song, both musically and lyrically. I'd love to see a video for this song, as I get the feeling she'd be dancing down the street proclaiming to the world that she's moving on and ready to enjoy life and not dwell on the past. I like that attitude, personally. I don't like to dwell on things and obsess over them so this song fits me almost to a T. Anyway, I'd give this song a definite 5/5 hearts.

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone Mood

Upbeat after a few seconds of slow music. I love this song because it shouts that she's way over with this guy (first she's in love, then she says "Leave Me Alone" and now says it's over....wonder in which order she wrote these songs....). The song is probably an athem to those girls out there who have had enough of their would be boyfriends. Go go!

Placement Not used in PGSM.

Memorable

To me yes (FINALLY!). The song, again, is a "tribute" to girls (maybe guys?) out there who tell their opp. to *$)# off! HAHAHAH!

Lyrics

"I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that
Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of strength
The future holds no ties with me"

*Shouts* GO CHIEKO! Get rid of the scumb bag and don't look back! *ahem* So as you can see, she's telling him off and tries to look to the future of her now free-from-the-scrum life!

Overall Rating

I give this song a 5 out of five. I will give this song a five as I think it really deserves it. Not only do I like it, but it's fun and I can sing to it. hehehe

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

Hmmm..... the opening reminded me of a hip hop english song! Haha, but it's a funky song to hear. It has a good dancing beat to it.

Placement

N/A

Memorible

I don't think this is one of her better songs, so I probably wont think of this song when i think of her.

Lyrics

I'm making sure to block you from my heart I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of strength The future holds no ties with me I love the words to this song, cuz i have had to deal with this before, and it's always good to be able to relate to a song.

Overall

a 4.5 because I love the words and the beat.

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

xD That was my face after I heard the first minute of the song. Is there someone out there that knows the N64 game "Banjo Kazooie"? If you know that game and hear the first minute of the song you know why I am laughing. It is because the banjo at the beginning of the song sounds exactly the same as the opening part for Banjo Kazooie. Aww .it was good to remember the past, I loved that videogame. Well now, the melody of the song is kind of dance-like, but not that much. Is like a fusion between USA-UK-JP pop XD.

Placement:

You can find this song in "Brilliance".

Memorable:

For me, it's not memorable at all. Even though the song is good and Chieko's voice is as good as always, I can't find something that would make me hear this song over and over again. It can be played once (or not even that), and then be forgotten; I rather prefer change the song to Brilliance or I don't know, but this one's lacking of something very important, that thing that makes you hook up with it.

Lyrics:

Hahaha it's ironic how I really, really like the lyrics of the songs that I don't like that much hehehe. "Over" lyrics are really great, they express the feeling that the song wants to transmit, each word, each line, each paragraph indicate us that Chieko is totally over with that guy, she won't whine anymore for him; she's ready to move on.

I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that
Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of strength
The future holds no ties with me

She totally rules

Overall Rating:

I give this song 3 out of four stars it has good lyrics but not that good melody.

Sailor V - Jessica

Tone/Mood

The tone is quite positive, yet has an undertone of doubt. Its too obstinate and uncaring to be taken at absolute face value. The mood is seems to be dampened down to quite 'dull', as if the song is a line of statements that don't dare thinking about in case of breaking down.

Placement

None in PGSM

Memorable

I find this song memorable for the sheer stubborn quality of the lyrics and the decent melodic line. This song could easily be turned into a slow, depressing, song, but its not.

Lyrics

I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that

Though these lyrics seem strong, its as if she's having to convince herself. Being stubborn and refusing to think and take steps backward to move forward. Even though she says she 'wont cry' etc, by acknowledging that it's a possibility she might have, she's admitting she most likely will.

4/5

Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin

Tone/Mood

The english at the beginning is disorienting. It sounds like one of our teeny-bopper pop songs. The song is kinda sexy-angry sounding. The beat isn't very inspired and it feels like the chorus is a bit halfhearted. The singing is great... I imagine a remix of this showing up on DDR because of the beat. Seems like an average song to me.

Placement

On her CD

Memorable

Only if you're a fan of hers ^^

Lyrics

Ahh she's a girl who doesn't know what she wants....

I've been over you
Don't tell me what you want
What do you wanna do?

Which is it? Don't tell or tell? You gotta decide silly!

I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that
Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of
strength
The future holds no ties with me

She's spending this whole song trying to convince herself that she's over this guy, but it sure doesn't sound that way, does it? At least, not to me. Meh, lyrics are average. Nothing terrible, nothing great.

Overall Rating

3 - I'm a toughie I guess ^^;

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

So full of energy. This is the kind of song you'd hear playing in the mall, or just out at a restaurant with your friends on a Friday night.

Placement

Brilliance by Kawabe Chieko.

Memorable

Meh. Not really.

Lyrics

Shaking, unsure, that's just the way your smile is
The doorway to emotion doesn't make anything feel better
To care, this time things won't be better
This wish won't be waiting

The lyrics are just cool. They don't make a whole lot of sense, but then again, when do Japanese lyrics ever make sense in English? This song is a blast to sing along with.

Overall Rating

4/5: This song is fun to sing along with, and it has a 'girl power' vibe, even though I usually find that kind of stuff incredibly cheesy. Great job, Chieko!

Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto

Mood:

OK, here's why I was so disappointed with the Brilliance album. What is this? Pop? Dance? I don't feel like moving. I don't feel emotion. It's a dead mood.

Placement:

A fifth dimension, beyond that of sight and sound. . .

Memorable:

I forgot this even existed until I had to review it.

Lyrics:

No, certainly wouldn't want to put any effort into that. OK, ever read Foundation by Isaac Asimov? There's a part where one of the characters puts another's speech through a linguistic analysis and it comes as nothing. Same here.

Overall:

Let me go ahead and assume that it's the first album they wanted to get it out and forced some subpar tracks. Heaven knows they couldn't think this was the best Chieco could do. One.

Queen Beryl - Molly

Tone/Mood

Another song based on not holding onto the past. It makes the point of not putting up with some ones hurting her anymore. Its the resolve I'm sure alot of people wish they could have.I loved having the lyrics up and singing along to them, because it made me feel empowered.

Memorable

This song is memorable in the way its very upbeat and relaxed at the same time. I like the way it seems to take control. Yet another you can't help but like.

Lyrics

"I'm making sure you don't get near my heart
Near or far today was here
Inside, I get a feeling that I'll be here a while"

Its my favourite few lines, because it puts up a wall that I wish I sometimes could, and then she tells up that she knows she isn't going anywhere, which can be interpreted as the will to keep on living despite previous hurts.

Overall Rating

I give this song a 5. I really can't find anything I don't like about it. Her english sounds like english, and the beat is nice.

Sailor Saturn - Miri-chan

Tone/Mood

And Kawabe-san attempts another Quiet Riot-type song! Very well done, in my opinion. There are variations in pitch and melody, and her voice is very powerful in this song. Personally, I think the bridge segment could have been better, but overall it's awesome! The expression and emotion that Kawabe Chieco poured into the song is a perfect match for the meaning that the song is trying to get across.

Placement

On Kawabe Chieco's CD Brilliance. I love how this CD has such a large variety of styles!

Memorable

One word = very!!! Especially the chorus. There are repeating melody lines that have a good feel and beat to it that will easily get stuck in your mind.

Lyrics

Strong and passionate, just like Kawabe Chieco herself! The lyrics are very...hm, assertive, and get the point across, especially combined with the music. My favourite line has to be the last one: "The future holds no ties with me." If that isn't strong enough, I don't know what is!

Overall Rating

5/5 from me! ^-^ As said before, I love this style of hers. Definitely one of Chieco's best!

Nephrite - Frosted_Rain

Tone/Mood

RnB? Rap? Hiphop? Confusing tone, isn't it. Nevertheless, this goes to my list of relaxing songs. Just enough to tap my fingers on a lonely night to relax while studying. I'm not much interested of the mood... makes me sleepy while listening to it... (Z_Z)

Placement

Brillance CD

Memorable

Not worth remembering... There are other songs of her worth of remembering but not this... It's... um... maybe the tone of her song... or the mood. (?_?)

Lyrics

I've been over you
Don't tell me what you want
What do you wanna do?

Umm... fishing? (LOLZ!)

I'm making sure to block you from my heart
I won't cry, I won't miss you, and I'll be glad of that
Inside I get this feeling that I'm the only one thinking of strength
The future holds no ties with me

OUCH, painful one there... forgiven and forgotten. And I'm making sure not to cry over spilled beer (milk for kids, beer for adults... ^^)

Overall Rating

After 2 months of Chieko Kawakabe madness, at last... it's finally her time to pass. Will it be the last one? Definitely not. We will see more of her and hear of her music in the future. Make it sure it's worth hearing and the meaning worth keeping, ne? 2 hearts for this song. Confusing tone, sleepy mood and lyrics full of forgetfulness.
