Route 99

Sailor Mercury - Topaz

Tone/Mood

The song opens with a really great beat and guitar piece. But then singers come on and soon follows your ears start to hurt. You think what the hell is this crap? where did that really great opening go. The tone they seem to want to go for is so ,well, early 90's

Placement

Memorable

I personally will remember the opening but as for the rest, CRAP. The singing sounds like a cat getting run over. The "so free" bit. My ears are now bleeding

Lyrics

The lyrics are beautiful. And they really try to get you. Whoever wrote this very passionate about what they do.

Overall Rating

What can i say the singing really really brings down everything. I give this a one and thats only do to the opening.

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

First thought? INITIAL frickin' D. It really sounds like that sort of song to start. It sounds like Endo-san is still finding his voice, though. The rapping/speaking bits are fine, but when he gets to the singing, he struggles a bit. I think he's got it in him - he just needs to loosen up a bit more.

PLACEMENT:

N/A

MEMORABLE:

More like evocative of other stuff, so not necessarily memorable on its own.

LYRICS:

Sigh. Yes, we know some words in English. That's great. I like the bits in Japanese. You know, the bits that mean something:

I'm searching for a road where I can feel the wind,
Take me any way you want

It's a cool song, and the English bits are really 'hardcore' and cool-sounding to Japanese-speakers, I'm sure. But it'd help a bit if more of them meant something.

OVERALL:

3 out of 5 hearts, edging towards a 4, simply because I know Endo has it in him to sing better.

Dark Sailor Mercury - Ilse

Tone/Mood

Okay this style is VERY different from all other songs I have ever reviewed. This is more rock! I don't really know if I like it, but for now it's okay. It's tough it's hard! I never heard a Japanese rocksong. Cool song!

You can't really say, because I only heard the sample

Lyrics:

Right now I'm in the place where I can fly with my whimsy burnin' soul
Drunken check, stop go, goodbye bye-bye fake insane
I feel high, just a minute, the wine glass was full, bound by my breaking soul
I'm searching for a road where I can feel the wind, take me anyway you want

So free so free so free
So free so free so sweet

Puzzled life, Chance, why? This place has a changing life
Laughing wild, look up at the sky, through the moonlight web
Feel the sadness fall away, moisture supplied by the line of tears.
I'm searching for an adequete road, take me anyway you want

Ok, the song is so fast paced, that I hardly can hear what they're singing I only recognize the last part, take me anyway you want, and the so free thingy and then you can't follow it again.

Overall rating:

4 Hearts. I like the first part very much. It was going to cost one of that hearts because of the lyrics, and the reason why you can't hear them.

Sailor Uranus - G.E. Artemis

Tone/Mood:

The intro is awesome. It’s got a sort of quirky feel to it; the guitar and drums sound really cool. The singing, however, needs work. I couldn’t keep up with it when I was reading the lyric sheet. I couldn’t understand a word. Other than the singing, it’s actually quite good.

Placement:

On Cosmos Explosion.

Memorable:

Not in my mind. As good as the music sounds, it could be taken as just another hard rock song.

Lyrics:

The lyrics are all right, I suppose. There are some points where it makes no sense (Dragon voice? What the hell?), but that may be because of the bad Engrish (but hey, in my opinion, Engrish always makes a song better). My favorite lines in the song are:

I'm not a little boy, I'm not myself, there isn't any signifigance
Skipping the crowded star cluster, what is route 99

Those lines make it sound like he’s maturing and leaving his childish side behind. I really like that.

Rating:

I think this is one of those songs that I could grow to like. (When I first listened to it, I didn’t like it at all.) This would have gotten a higher rating if the singing had been better and if the lyrics made a little more sense.

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone/Mood

I'm listening it right now and it sounds really cool....but then....the singing....it kills the song. WTF?! It sounds as if they are trying too hard to belt the lyrics out. Trying too hard to be heavy metal I think. Blah...

I can't say yes and I can't say no because I only heard a minute and a half of the song. #_#

2 out of 5. When I hear the song in it's fullness, I'll change that but for now 2 is as good as it's gonna get for this one folks.

Sailor V - Jessica

Tone/Mood

The tone starts out sounding as if it could be a little depressing, but the beat picks up quickly and doesn't stay in the same monotone that it could have slipped into. The mood ends up quite positive and the song sounds like something worth blasting at full volume if you get the chance.

Placement

None in PGSM

Memorable

I think I only find these lyrics memorable as they remind me of driving through the city in darkness and crazy nights out at uni.

Lyrics

So crash it up to new dimension
Break it through the new generation
Dragon voice is out of my control

I love this lines and they're my favourite out of the song. They make me think this track could so easily be chosen as an opening or ending for a new anime series.

Overall Rating

3/5

Sailor Saturn - Miri-chan

Tone/Mood

My first thought was, "This reminds of Metropolitan Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 2!" The beginning was awesome. It had a very steady beat and a modern, funky sound to it. Yet, once Yoshido-san came in with his singing, I started to cringe. It was way too... mainstream-style rock. And I'm not sure if it's just the quality of the clip, but Yoshido really screamed out this song, and knowing me, I hate any songs with screaming.

Placement

On Yoshido Endo's album, Cosmos Explosion.

Memorable

Not very. ^-^;; But then again, that may have been because I wanted to get it out of my head as soon as possible.

Lyrics

I didn't really like the lyrics. They were sort of random and all over the place. Not to mention that they didn't bear any real significance to me in any way.

Overall Rating

I know it's really harsh, but 1 out of 5 hearts. ^-^;; I didn't like this song at all. The music, the lyrics, the emotion. It wasn't clicking into my appeal at all.

Princess Sailor Moon - Kaitlin

Tone/Mood

Woooahhh this song sounds weird. It's loud and echo-y? The vocals are pretty cool. Seems like the opening to an anime to me. Pretty bouncy, but something about it is just... off?

Placement

Endo's CD

Memorable

Not really

Lyrics

Lyrics are pretty standard for jpop/rock.

I wish I could be in a place where I could fly with my "whimsy burnin'" soul. Hehehe that amuses me so much.

Nothing about the lyrics really stands out.

Overall Rating

3 - Not quiiiite good enough for a 4 in my eyes.

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

This is kind of techno-ish but hard core rock at the same time. Very odd actually. Yoshito's voice sounds pretty cool, but it'd be better if he wasn't trying to speak so quickly and trying to sound so hard-core.

Placement

COSMOS EXPLOSION by Amber Dust (the band that Yoshito Endo is lead vocalist for)

Memorable

This was the first song I downloaded from Yoshito's website, so for me it's memorable. It doesn't really stick out in my mind or anything.

Lyrics

I'm not a little boy, I am not myself, there isn't any significance
Skipping the crowded star cluster, what is route 99
Right now I'm not in this place anymore
That sort of thing isn't really how I feel when I fly high
I face my luck, the moonlight continues to restrict me
Route 99 (It isn't my way)

These lyrics stick out to me. Yoshito Endo is a lost soul in this piece, not knowing where he is meant to be in life. Route 99 represents his personal journey as to where he believes his destiny is leading him. Unfourtunately, at the end of the song, Yoshito realizes that he has taken the wrong path to his destiny, and must begin his journey over again. Poor 'lil guy.

Overall Rating

I really wish I could hear more of the song before entirely judging it. As it is right now, I give the song a 2/5. Hopefully this grade will improve when we re-review the song later on.

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

This song has a rocking tone! It reminds me of a theme to a rebel person or a biker. It's quitar opening is really cool.

Placement

Memorible

I think if people were really into this song, they would remember it more.

Lyrics

The lyrics I find funny!

Right now I'm in the place where I can fly with my whimsy burnin' soul Drunken check, stop go, goodbye bye-bye fake insane

He sure likes his alcohol!

Overall Rating

A 3 because eventhough it is a decent song, It isnt one of my favorites.

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

"Techno, rock, kind of bouncing of the floor and dance" these are the first things that came to me when I started hearing Route 99. I like the opening with the electric guitar; the first singing part is not that good, I like the song more after second 48, when he goes with the so free, so free ^^;. It reminds me somehow to "Ready steady Go!" from Full Metal Alchemist.

Placement:

Yoshito's band CD: Cosmos Explosion.

Memorable:

It will be memorable only if you like very much those powerful J-rock songs. I like it myself and it is going to be memorable because it was the third song of Yoshito that sounded like this. (The other two were: awaken and halo; EXCELLENT SONGS!)

Lyrics:

So free so free so free
So free so free so sweet

Puzzled life, Chance, why? This place has a changing life
Laughing wild, look up at the sky, through the moonlight web
Feel the sadness fall away, moisture supplied by the line of tears.
I'm searching for an adequate road, take me anyway you want.

I like this part of the lyrics, because they have a little more sense than the others, and they show somehow the true meaning of the title of the song. Route 99 represents Yoshito's feelings towards finding his real path in life, no mattering what good and bad stuff come with this searching.

Overall Rating:

I give Route 99 3 out of five stars, mostly because I can't follow the lyrics when he is singing, he does this pretty fast and I can hardly follow him.

Sailor Pluto - Sailorasteroid

Mood:

Well, at first, it sounded like a cheesy song from the early MTV era, what with the synthesized drums, but once the louder part kicks in, it becomes old school rock. Is this the sort of thing they call Visual Kei? Whatever it is, it's hard core.

Placement:

Ano. . .

Memorable:

This month is a little different for me, since it's the first time I haven't heard the songs before reviewing them. So on the theory that anything new is memorable, I'll always remember the first time I heard Endo sing.

Lyrics:

"Selfish gene is out of my control!" Well, then it's not very selfish, is it? But that's a pretty cool line.

Overall:

Well, I'm more of a pop guy than a rock guy, but I can't hold that against the song. Instead of getting your kicks on Route 66, have a good time on Route 99. Five.

Nephrite - Frosted_Rain

Tone/Mood

Song starts in mono. YEAH! Some rock-and-roll music. Now that's what I call music. This is my genre. Rock-loving people like me just jump around enjoying this music. No need for long comments, just COOL! Not for the pop-oriented people.

Placement

Endo-san's CD

Memorable

Kinda reminds me of the background music of the japanese movie I saw (Samehada-otoko to Momojiri-onna). Without the lyrics, it's a good song for a chase scene (the earlier instrumental part)

Lyrics

JPOP? It's JROCK! Can't hardly follow the lyrics...

So free... oh yeah! Now that's what I'm talking about...

So crash it up to new dimension
Break it through the new generation
Dragon voice is out of my control

\m/ (^.^) \m/

Overall Rating

YEAH!!! (at last, some MAN-ly music after reviewing GIRL-y music... sorry ladies^^) This stuff ROCKS!!!! Can't understand what the lyrics say during the song (well, some of the rock songs has to be that way, maybe). Too bad it's short. 4 HEARTS BABY!!!!

Queen Beryl - Molly

Tone/Mood

Its very upbeat and active. I like the intro to it.

Memorable

I think it is memorable since he has good vocals, and the music is catchy.

Lyrics

I like the lyrics alot. They seem very poetic and hopeful. It definatly put me in a good mood.

Overall Rating

I'd definatly give this song a 4 outs of 5.
