Promise

Sailor Mercury - Topaz

Tone/Mood

Yakusoku is a song the has a smoothe and calm sound to it. It has a bit of a heavy beat. Its a bit repetitive.

Placement

nope

Memorable

well not really. It just does not have anything to make it stand out.

Lyrics

The word fit ok. Most of them have to do with water.

Sorry, I think our hands are coming apart
You and I will always be together
So I'm sure we'll be able to meet again tomorrow

Why didn't they do anything with the Nef and ami love story!

Overall Rating

I would bearly even give this a one. Its just very dull. Its painful to give a mercury song such a low rating but, come on you all could have wrote something better for her!

Princess Serenity - Elly

Tone/Mood

So cute! This is your typical J-POP song here, folks. Very smooth and upbeat, with a slightly whiny tone. Maybe that's just because of the notes Chisaki/Rika is trying to hit in this. Who knows.

Placement

This was placed in Act 34, the episode where Rei has the stand-off with her father and Ami "rebels" against her mother by not transferring to a new school. Literally, I cried when I first heard this song, the placement was so well done. It was PERFECT to heighten the drama and tension between parent and child, and the bond created between Ami and Rei through their parent troubles. So great! I'm not really sure why they called this song "Promise" - as far as I know, in the Act, there was nothing even closely related to Promise. I guess the title isn't really what's important. This song was placed PERFECTLY in the episode. This song is also a character song for Sailor Mercury, although I'm not sure why. This again has little to do with Ami's character. Bah. They screwed Ami's character songs up so badly...

Memorable

Act 34 was my favorite episode, so this song is very memorable to me. I enjoyed listening to it before I realized it was in the act, so there you are. I'll treasure this little melody forever =)

Lyrics

I kept it a secret from my mom
For some reason today I don't want to go home
A wobbling jelly about to melt
Scoop it with a spoon and for a moment it's the color of the sea

Okay, so MAYBE this has to do with Ami from Act 34 =) The lyrics are rather incoherent and don't have any real meaning, but I find this is rather common in most pop songs. The imagery used is still rather playful, though.

Overall Rating

I love this song! This is one of my favorites in PGSM. Perhaps I'll put it under my "Staff Favorites" list...

Frosted_Rain - Nephrite

Tone/Mood

Relaxing and sad. Her voice is perfect (just like Ayaka-chan) for a sad song (is it?). Makes me wanna cry though (Did I repeat this statement on another review? silly me... ^ ^). During my times when my brain is on STANDBY (Or simply, I'm bored), I listen to this song to give me inspiration.

Placement

Set as a background song on Act 34 where Rei and Ami had a nightout at Crown (Man, I love that scene...). As a background music, it has a flaw. This is probably the worst background song placed in the series (They've ruined such a beautiful song!). They should have chosen other background music other than this. Anyway, I'll give this a 50-50 score for a background music usage.

Memorable

Broken promises. That's what I ha'd done to my ex-girlfriend years ago. But anyways, I'm happy about it. Sometimes, this song makes me sad (same applies to Ayaka's I'm Here and Sayonara). I don't know why though... Just refer abouve in the Tone/Mood part of my review.

Lyrics

Hora ame ga yamu koro yuuyake
Gomen ne te to te hanashichaisou
Itsu made mo issho da yo anata to
Dakara asu mo aeru kitto ne

Oh yes... memories of me during my "relationship" days years ago. I always promise things which will be eventually broken. As they say, "PROMISES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN." But then, it's good to say this part someday when I'll find My Beloved...

Overall Rating

5 hearts. Another great song performed by Chisaka Rika (eventhough they didn't liked Mi Amor). It's only flaw is its bad placement as a background music (I don't know about your opinion). She's perfect for other PGSM songs (like Sakura Fubuki and Romance). 'Tis a very lovely love song.

Ilse - Dark Sailor Mercury

Tone/Mood

Yes, this is also one of Chisaki's best song (Chisaki changed her name in Rika, but I still say Chisaki :P). It's not very fast, but also not slow. It's something between those two. It's just a perfect song for every time of the day. If you're very tired and when you're very busy.

Placement

Not used :'(. NOT FAIR!!! THEY Used OVER RAINBOW TOUR Also and that's too bad for words!

Memorable

No I think it's not. It's not memorable for me. It's a nice song, but I think that a lot of people like Mi amor better. But it's memorable for the people of the Yakusoku fan listing!

Lyrics

Look, a bird is flying away through a break in the clouds
Without a kitten your eyes seem lonely
Lots of discoveries, I want to make them
All with you, our fingers joined softly

I love the lyrics. They are about animals and the miracle of the nature. I love them. They are original and not useless. Nice work Mirakuru!

Overall rating

I give it 5 hearts. Again because of the lyrics. Why has Chisaki always the beautiful lyrics? I don't know why, but I LOVE them ^_^

Sailor Neptune - Ruth

Tone

Upbeat yet in the beginning I sense it's more a song to slow dance to, like at the prom or something. ^^ Chisaki has a lovely voice and it's really mellow-perfect for the song. Whenever I hear the song I notice that my head moves along with the beat and so does my right foot. LOL! A beautiful song to listen to. I would like to mention that I did download the song as it was the only way to get it (couldn't afford buying it at the time). I really would like you guys to go buy the single, better yet buy the Great Song Collection as it has ALL the singles on it!

Placement

Sadly the song wasn't used in PGSM, the Live Event, Dance Special or in the Special Act. And I highly doubt it will be in Act Zero. ^^; It's too bad because this would of been a perfect choice for either Act 33 or 34 as it pertains to Ami and her mother (and Rei and her father...). Shucks.

Memorable

Only if you hear it and if you like the song then yes. Fans should love this song as we really didn't get to hear Hama sing in PGSM other then Act 5 and even that was so so. LOL! So go download and judge it yourself..

Lyrics

While looking at the lyrics I notice that they don't make much sense when translated. Take a look:

"A wobbling jelly about to melt
Scoop it with a spoon and for a moment it's the color of the sea"

Now that's really wierd looking to me and when I say those words it sounds even wierder. You try. LOL! The lines only sound good when spoken/sung in Japanese. ^_^

Overall Rating

4 hearts out of 5! A beautiful song and it's my favorite out of the two singles. I'm just sad the song was never used in PGSM, I would really have liked to have heard this song used.

Sailor Venus - Tobias

Tone/Mood

A mellow song... with a nice pleasant guitar sound. Its a nice tune to wind down with. It won't drive you nuts... but it is slow and might not be the song you would relate with if you want something active to listen to. I can calm down with this song... and just focus my thoughts...

Placement

Well... placed well... is a little off... it seemed a bit odd for a background music. It just seemed a bit odd in Act 34... with Rei and Ami playing in the Senshi HQ, playing dress up and having the scene be accompanied with odd sound effects (not like the helicopter) and then them falling asleep on the couch... I always thought that... that it seemed out of place somehow... but that is just my opinion, however Keiko's roar and Chisaki...ahem... Rika's elephant sound was cute... It fit the context of how comfortable around each other Rei and Ami are.

Memorable

This song isn't the most memorable of Pretty Guardian songs... however I still listen to it... maybe not as much as other songs... but I still listen to it. It has a nice charm to it to make it memorable in its own way.

Lyrics

I know this is the lyrics section but the lyrics fit the context of Act 34 a little better... with the line

"Itsu made mo issho da yo anata to Dakara asu mo
aeru kitto ne"

... She and Rei are friends and teammates... so of course they'll see each other again... the lyrics however in other parts make no sense... like

"Furufuru tokesou na ZERII SUPUUN de sukuu to SHUNKAN umi no iro ne".

Wobbling jelly... yeah. Things like that make no sense to me... but oh well... its still a nice song.

Overall Rating

A nice song... mellow... yet its tone never really picks up... this one is nice... but a bit, boring when compared to other PGSM songs... but I still enjoy it.

Tuxedo Mask - Kero-chan

Tone/Mood:

A pretty ballad sang by Chisaki-san. The sound of the electric guitar and the percussion makes the song sound so perfect. It is like one of those songs that you can hear whenever you're sad, and at the end, you might just finish with a cute smile. The ballad has somehow a cheerful tone, the combination of her voice, the instruments, the lyrics and something more (I just can't think of what can it be, but it is gorgeous) makes the song an excellent image song for Live-Action Sailor Mercury. The chorus (climax of the song, for me) has the essence of Hama, and also Ami-chan; this song is a pretty good ballad a pretty good Ami's song.

Placement:

The song was first played at the slumber party between Ami and Rei. This scene was lovely and cute (XDDD) with the girls changing outfits, playing and just having fun. I think the song was excellent for this scene: both were having issues with their parents, and they needed a time-out. Having a slumber party, where they could forget about reality, was the best medicine. The part of the act, to place this song was brilliant; the staff's decision for this scene was excellent, it fitted pretty well.

Memorable:

I will remember this song forever because of three things: 1. - It's one of my PGSM top 5; 2. - It fitted so well in the series; 3. - I'm planning to sing that song in the next karaoke contest! XD.

Lyrics:

My favorite part:

I kept it a secret from my mom
For some reason today I don't want to go home

~^*^~

I want to turn crystal clear
I want to melt into a glass
Because I'm sure that would make my spirit transparent

The lyrics don't make that much sense, but somehow I manage to find a meaning in these 2 fragments (especially thinking in the act the song was placed). Ami, not wanting to return home, keeping her location a secret to her mom. Both girls, wanting to be free so that they could do whatever they want, and live the way they chose, making their spirit crystal clear and free T__T Perfect just perfect

Overall Rating:

I am going to give this song a 5 star rating. I know the lyrics don't make a lot of sense, but those fragments, the music and Hama's voice, make the song a valuable PGSM song.

Sailor Uranus - Nickole

Tone/Mood

The beat of this song is very calm, peaceful, and serene. Its the perfect beat for a Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno song! I love it!

Placement

Its on one of the PGSM CD's, as far as I'm aware of.

Memorable

Not a memorable song to me, but if I were a huge fan of Mercury, I'm sure it would be.

Lyrics

When I peek at the fish
Swimming in its tank
The colorful parasols
The water droplets shine in a rainbow
I want to walk with you, it'll be fun

These lyrics are very....watery, and cute! I like the way she sings them.

Overall Rating

I will give this song a 4, because Its got a pretty beat, and cute lyrics that suit Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno.

Kuroki Mio - Kaitlin

Tone/Mood

The song kicks off well, with a catchy beat and a sort of rock-pop feel. It seems like something I heard in Video Girl Ai (a series I highly recommend)... not sure why. Our beloved Ami is singing her heart out... or is she? I think I sing the song more intensely than she does, to be honest. Her voice suits the song though. I can feel almost... a sense of longing in her voice. The drums in the background are done very nicely... not too overpowering but not too subtle. She really anunciates.

Placement

The song was placed in an episode where she and Rei "run away" and stay at Crown. This is probably the ONLY episode where they actually show them acting like real friends. They dress up in funny outfits using their cellphones and have a big pillow fight, falling asleep on the couch in animal suits and covered in feathers. I really LOVE the placement of this song. It was the best choice for this moment. They're sad and happy all at once... sort of like real life is. The scene itself was quite funny and I do associate a bit of that with this song. The whole thing just fits.

Memorable

Definately... Only because of its placement though. Otherwise I'd probably think of it as a good song, but not my favorite. It's easy to fall in love with the scene this song is in.

Lyrics

I can't decide what to think about the lyrics... I almost like the song better not knowing what she's saying. Then again... some verses are touching...

"Let's go outside Let's take a walk Because I'm sure my heart will swell Look, a bird is flying away through a break in the clouds Without a kitten your eyes seem lonely Lots of discoveries, I want to make them All with you, our fingers joined softly "

That's really sweet, right? Sort of that young-and-in-love feeling. Then we get...

"A wobbling jelly about to melt Scoop it with a spoon and for a moment it's the color of the sea "

What the heck are you talking about Ami-chan? Jelly about to melt? Exactly how hot is it where you are? It takes a lot of heat to melt jelly. What about the color of the sea? I thought this song was about a promise! Unless you made the promise over a bowl of blue jell-o (why couldn't you just call it that?) I don't see the relevance. However, the ending lyrics really drive this song home for me.

"I'm sure we will, I'm sure we will I'm sure we will, I'm sure we will We will "

That sort of desperation you feel when you're young. You desperately want to cling to love and think it will last forever, and the way this is sung, you can hear her trying to convince herself and the audience. I love the simplicity of this part of the lyrics.

Overall Rating

4 - Very good, but not amazing. Probably the fault of the wobbling jelly.

Sailor Luna - Emo-chan

Tone/Mood

This song had more of a softer tone to it than Mi Amor. It sounds a little more serious and more like the Ami Mizuno we all love. Though it still has a happy beat and her voice sounds great in it.

Placement

Not in the series, but a much better character single for Ami, since it has references to water and such.

Memorable

To me, I dont think I'll remember this song more than Mi Amor. But it's a good song nonetheless.

Lyrics

When I peek at the fish Swimming in its tank The colorful parasols The water droplets shine in a rainbow I want to walk with you, it'll be fun

Within the first section of the song, there are two references to water. I like that because Ami's element is water and she can relate herself to her element in the song.

Look, a sunset as the rain stops Sorry, I think our hands are coming apart You and I will always be together So I'm sure we'll be able to meet again tomorrow

I always found this song to be a bit sad, and she talks about losing touch with someone and meeting them again. I think this song is a bit about her and Usagi. Great imagery used in the words though!

Overall Rating

I'm going with a four this time! Mostly because this is more of a character single for Ami, and the song sounds more like one she would sing. Great song.

Zoicite - Ephie

Tone/Mood

Yakusoku has a very calming feeling to it. I like the slight echo effect that they have on it to match Chisaki's voice closely. I find this song to be relaxing and find it one of my favorites on my CD. Overall, just a nice chill out song.

Placement

Placed for background music of act 34. I'm not really sure my feelings for this song, so please excuse me while I work it out here. While I do favor this song a lot, let me try to think on how well it would do for a background.
Well, if memory serves me right, I think it might have run a little long for me in the series. Either that, or the scene in Crown itself was just a little long and they could have cut it by a bit. It could have made a good song for one of them to karaoke instead, though. Or perhaps if they placed the scene right before a break, it might have done better, but overall, I don't think it was that bad of a choice and I would keep it right where it was.

Memorable

Very memorable. Though, again, I don't remember it from the scene it was in, but rather because of my CD, mostly because I purchased it before seeing the episode. But I do find myself humming the chorus to myself on occasion. Again, it's another one of those songs I wish I would just sit down and learn the words.

Lyrics

Itsu made mo issho da yo anata to
Dakara asu mo aeru kitto ne

I can't really explain why these particular lines speak to me the way they do, but I like the confidence in the phrase. "We'll always be together, so I know we'll meet again." It's just very touching to me and seems to hit a little close to home.

Overall Rating

This is hard to rate. It is one of my favorite songs, but I think I'll only give it a 4. There's just something missing. I don't think it's a bridge, but I just need a teeny something more from this song. If only I knew what.

Prince Endymion - Alexander

Tone/Mood

Yakusoku is a great song! I like it because it's really very well balanced song - neither fast, nor slow. Rina's voice is sweet and adorable. It also sounds somehow friendly - like Ami-chan!

Placement

As far as I know, only in Act 34.

Memorable

Yakusoku is Sailor Mercury's character song and I think it fits her because the song sounds friendly. I suppose this peace isn't memorable for all PGSM fans, but it's memorable for all of Mercury's fans like me!

Lyrics

"A wobbling jelly about to melt
Scoop it with a spoon and for a moment it's the color of the sea"

To be honest, before I started reviewing PGSM music, I didn't know what the lyrics of most PGSM songs mean. And I still don't mind if they sound somehow silly or they don't make sense. I suppose that there are many PGSM fans who think like me. I like the sound and the melody and the non-sense lyrics can't make me hate Yakusoku! =)

Overall Rating

I gave Mercury-chan's character song 4 hearts! Not my FAVOURITE PGSM peace, but it's a really very good one!

Sailor Pluto - Ciao

Tone/Mood

I downloaded this song ages ago from either Ruth or SailorMusic.net (can't remember which) and listened to a lot of them at the time. I remember thinking I didn't really think much to Hama's voice at all, so wisyish and not that strong. I guess I was wrong *smiles* This song fits her rather well and she doesn't waver or stretch any in singing it.

Placement

None

Memorable

Without knowing it, I've had little snatches of this song in my head off and on since I first heard it ages ago, so it must be memorable in some way *grins* Her voice is rather unremarkable, except for the fact that she can actually carry a tune without dropping it, but the tune is rather nice and catchy up to a point. It's a bit twangy which puts me off but that's ok.

Lyrics

I do think the lyrics fit the music rather well. She doesn't have to stretch to fit all the words in, nor does she have to drag it out waiting for the words. I don't really know how to explain it any other way than that. It almost sounds like this song could be used as a song between Mercury and Nephrite, should a romance have been developed between the two. (yes, that is where my heart leans *grins*)

Overall Rating

I would say it's about a 3 on the scale partly because altho I've remembered bits of it, it is still rather an unremarkable song, sung in an unremarkable way. I do like the fact that it doesn't tax her voice, as she can actually sing, it appears. There is no wavering or anything like that - her voice is still as strong through the whole song as when she starts it, which is great. I hate songs where you can tell the singer is wavery, nervous or whatever else because it detracts from the song in a big way when you can tell that the singer isn't confident.

Queen Beryl - Alexa

Tone/Mood

The Tone is rather mellow with a nice soft beat. It’s an excellent feeling for Mercury.

Placement

I believe this song was featured on the Mercury Single and that’s it. Oh, and part of Act 35 but that’s when my internet connection died for a while and I couldn’t via bittorent any episodes! (*Wails*)

Memorable

It’s memorable to me as a ‘Mercury’ Song. I have it on a CD, as well as every other PGSM song (I love MP3s) and that’s pretty much it.

Lyrics

I want to turn crystal clear
I want to melt into a glass
Because I'm sure that would make my spirit transparent

I know, you’re all crying and thinking stuff like this is so sweet, but this isn’t very ‘Mercury’-ish, if anyone understands that. Since when was Mercury the one to turn back? I know in the Live-Action she’s a bit more self-concious and all that fun stuff, but it still doesn’t seem to fit the Mercury attitude I’d expect for a Mercury song.

Overall Rating

I’d love to tell you all this song is the greatest song ever, but I don’t actually like it very much (Over some songs (*Thinks ORT*) this song is great (*Shivers*)) So I’m going to give it a four!! Only Special Songs get fives.

Sailorasteroid - Sailor Pluto

Mood:

For whatever reason, this song reminds me of Sheryl Crow's "Soak up the Sun." Probably it's the long note to start the chorus. In any case, it's a lazy mood, kind of a laid-back coffee-house feel only with electric guitars.

Placement:

N/A

Memorable:

Ah. . . no. This is very much a stamped-out song, typical pop with nothing special in it at all, with the possible exception of the ending which repeats the same phrase four times and then gives you half of it to close. Other than that, it's the kind of song that hypnotizes you so you barely know you're listening to music.

Lyrics:

Weird is the only word for them. I can't think of any other song that mentions a fish in its opening line. And it doesn't even mention a yakusoku.

Overall:

The guitar and the ending are the only reason to listen to this song. Oh, and to let you know that Hama can't sing. Two.

Sailor Jupiter - Joy Azama

Tone/Mood

I love this song! I first heard it on Act 34, where Ami and Rei are in the Crown room, having fun. The song really stuck to me, and I liked the singer's voice (that's what's on my mind at that time, and I didn't know that it was Chisaki singing, I was even wishing that it IS one the actresses' voice). I always put this on *repeat* mode, and it always reminded me of sailing, my head is moving sideways with this song all the time, and I always make rowing movements with my hands (which made my sister laugh all the time). At one point (the first time I have the CD), I get teary-eyed with this song, just thinking of that scene in Act 34 and with all the senshis' problems with their respective problems, added with the song lyric 'gomen' (at that time, I wasn't familiar with the lyrics, I just get a few known Japanese words here and there). Nice song indeed, very melodramatic and heart-wrenching tune!

Placement

I have to say that this song is placed within the context of the series. It is played in Act 34, but not on the special live event, and is found on the CDs. In Act 34, Ami and Rei have problems with their parents, but in a different way: Ami debating whether to defy her mother, and Rei whether to forgive her father. Each has different family values, and it caused a bit of tiff between the two in the earlier part of the act. So to escape these problems, Ami and Rei decided to stay at the Crown room and have fun for a short period of time, and just try to empathize with each other.

Memorable

Definitely memorable for me, Chisaki's voice is really incredible, as if she feels what the lyrics are. I sing this song all the time, in fact it is one of the songs that I memorized easily, dearly, and immediately.

Lyrics

When I peek at the fish
Swimming in its tank
The colorful parasols
The water droplets shine in a rainbow
I want to walk with you, it'll be fun

Let's go outside
Let's take a walk
Because I'm sure my heart will swell

Now these lyrics really define who Ami is. I think Ami is the type who takes pleasure in simple things such as rainbows, cute things, amusement parks, etc. She'll love a little walk with her friends, and spend time with them. The lyrics, for me, is very mature and very perceptive of the surroundings and nature, which I think is what is going on inside the intellectual mind of Ami.

Look, a bird is flying away through a break in the clouds

Without a kitten your eyes seem lonely
Lots of discoveries, I want to make them
All with you, our fingers joined softly

I kept it a secret from my mom
For some reason today I don't want to go home
A wobbling jelly about to melt
Scoop it with a spoon and for a moment it's the color of the sea

I want to turn crystal clear
I want to melt into a glass
Because I'm sure that would make my spirit transparent

These lyrics show that not all people are perfect. Ami may appear serious, brave, and bright, but all people have their limits, deep inside Ami is breaking down too like everybody. When you look at her, you'd think that she's the type who is "Hindi Makakabasag Pinggan," this is a Tagalog phrase for "someone who couldn't create havoc or is very lady-like." But human is human, we are bound to create mistakes and feel emotions.

Overall Rating

I give this song a 5 out of 5 hearts. I love everything about it, from the singer's voice, to the tune, up to the meaning of lyrics. Love it!

Kunzite - Loreal

Tone/Mood

This song has a very calm and relaxing feel to it. I find myself just sort of swaying with the music. It is a good song to play after a long and stressful day.

Placement

This song was in Act 34 I think. Rei and Ami were hanging out and just having a good time. It seemed a little out of place with all the goofy stuff that was going on. The song strikes me as something that should be saved for a more touching/romantic scene.

Memorable

As a Mercury fan, the song is very memorable. A friendly and comforting song that fits Ami-chans personality perfectly.

Lyrics

I felt that the lyrics went well with the music. Ami is the type of persn that you could go on a walk with and all your problems go away. I thought that " you and I will always be together" was so sweet. That line really gives warm fuzzies all around.

Overall Rating

Overall, I think I would give this song a four. It was a good song with a nice beat and message.

Kuroki Mio - Kara

TONE/MOOD:

I wonder if everyone will know what I mean when I say this has a 'guy' feel to it. This is not the sort of orchestration, or the sort of tone, that I would expect from a girl's song, especially a girl's image song. I think the guitar may have a lot to do with that. But I think a big part of it's also the fact that this is neither perky nor flirty, while still managing to be somewhat upbeat.

PLACEMENT:

Mizuno Ami's character single, as well as the Rei/Ami sleepover scene in the show.

MEMORABLE:

Listening to it alone, no. Within the series, definitely. It's very evocative of the scene.

LYRICS:

They're cute, but when you get right down to it, they're fairly average. There's nothing about them that pops out at me as particularly special; everything I like is in the musical presentation.

OVERALL RATING:

4 out of 5 - a well-performed song, but the lyrics fell a bit short of what it could have been.
