Iron Mouse reviews Friend

Tone/Mood ~When the song first begins it has the trademark Sailor Moon electric synthesizer. I know I groaned the first time I heard it because I figured it to be cheesy. Once the singing begins, the cheese factor subsides and it becomes a sweet song. Not quite an upbeat pop song and not quite a slow ballad, Friend falls in the middle. When you think of the 5 senshi singing this song to each other about how grateful they are for friendship the melody really works!

Placement ~As the closing song for the end of the final act of PGSM it is perfect. The battle has been won and the girls believe that they will be able to start a life free from fighting. Of course, this is Sailor Moon and that never happens. Friend is a nice wrap up song that embodies the entire season and the happiness the girls have had throughout all their struggles.

Memorable ~This song doesn't stick out in my head. If I hear it I do remember it, especially the slow part towards the end of the song. I wish it was more memorable for me because it truly is a nice song.

Lyrics ~As a character song for Hino Rei/Sailor Mars

I ran here With my dream I was searching It makes me think of Rei-chan running away from her father to her mother's grave. Fleeting sepia feelings Sealed up in a photo album Come back to me

Here she is wishing to have her mother back with her.

Thousands of feelings Vanish into the night sky I want to complete the things We can do only now I wanna be with you My best friend
Wow. How many times have I gone out and looked up at the sky believing that anything I say there will be heard only by my mother's ears? Rei-chan is suffering because her mother, her best friend was taken too soon.

Relating to all 5 girls:

I was searching With no time to look back every day This isn't a chance meeting Because of their destiny they were searching for each other although they didn't know it until the time was right. I want to have adventures, too Happening again and again Meetings and partings The nights of solitude finally over Inside the gentle winds Your smiling face is always the same

Each girl was essentially alone (save Usagi) and through their awakening as senshi they also became close friends. They not only fight enemies but they spend time together having fun.

Even if we start to walk down Separate roads Somewhere deep inside We're connected The magic words (miracle words) Race across the starry sky I really don't have to explain this part.

No matter where they go they will always be connected as senshi. If the call comes for them to fight they will be there.

I was smiling, shy of This thing called friendship Thanks for giving me This wonderful dream

This goes back to Naoko's original desire for her characters. Young girls called together by the bonds of destiny and duty who become the best of friends. That sums up all of Sailor Moon.

Overall Rating

4 1/2 Hearts It is a beautiful song with absolutely sweet lyrics. The vocals are very nice on this song also. I have to take a 1/2 heart off because it just isn't extremely memorable for me. I really wish it were but 10 minutes after I hear it, it floats out of my brain.

Elly's Review of Friend

Tone/Mood: Very upbeat and happy. I am a little annoyed that pretty much through the entire song only two or three chords are used, but whatever.

Placement: It was a nice way to end PGSM (because Lord knows when Friend was used as an ending song for it, it needed to end). Other than that, bleh. It would have been nice to use in the episode where Ami is having problems fitting in with Usagi and gang.

Memorable: It's a very cute song, but it just doesn't stick out in my mind for some reason.

Lyrics:

This merry-go-round keeps turning
Fleeting sepia feelings
Sealed up in a photo album
Come back to me

Very powerful imagery. It's a shame they didn't use more of it. I really wasn't impressed with most of the lyrics.

Overall Rating:

The lyrics sprawl on forever, and after a while the background music grates on my nerves. This song gets a two.

Nickoles Review Of Friend

Tone/Mood:  I think that the beginning of the song is really catchy in a sweet, melodic way, as it's not too poppy, or too slow. It's got a soft happy go lucky mood, and I think it's the kind of song perfect for listening to on a calm day by yourself or something.

Placement:  A great song to finish off PGSM, it's cute and fits in with the feelings of the Senshi and even the other supporting characters as well. Maybe a more dramatic song could have been used, but still, Friend is an all right song for the end.

Memorable:  Now, I don't really think of this song as really memorable, other then being the ending song to PGSM. Otherwise, it's an okay song to listen to now and then.

Lyrics:
For myself
We only get one life
Go my way
I want to have adventures, too
Happening again and again
Meetings and partings
The nights of solitude finally over
Inside the gentle winds
Your smiling face is always the same
Radiant
Even if we start to walk down
(winding road)
Separate roads

The lyrics were long and such, but still had some good points within PGSM. This part is my favorite, because it describes basically how the Senshi still want to remain friends with one another, no matter how far apart they grow in distance. It's perfect for the end of the show.

Overall Rating:

Although it's not the most epic Sailor Moon song, it's still pretty cute and I like it enough to give it three hearts. It's lyrics could have been written a little better, and that might have gotten it a four or something.

Sakura's Review on Friend

Tone/Mood: Has that Jpop feeling to it., but very catchy and upbeat to it. I love the electric guitars in this and the actresses sounds cute when they sing to together.

Placement: Ending of PGSM and also preformed at Kirari Super Live event. This song is perfect for the last Act. I can't think of anywhere else this song fits.

Memorable: Sad at the fact PGSM is over and done with.

Lyrics: The lyrics are all about friendship.

I was smiling, shy of
This thing called friendship
Thanks for giving me
This wonderful dream

Each girl was an outcast or alone until Usagi came along and changed things. This line here is thanking Usagi for being friends with her and showing what friendship is all about.

Overall Rating:

I love the vocals of the actresses. The song is cute, and I will be listening to this often.

Emochan's Review of Friend

Tone/Mood: I love this song. It’s so happy and upbeat. It’s a great song and has a sound to it that just makes any listener want to smile.

Placement: The only time it played was at the end of the last episode of PGSM, which was perfect. After regaining all their memories of each other, this song is a celebration of that friendship and I think it was a perfect song to end the series.

Memorable: This is one of the more memorable songs for me in the PGSM soundtrack. It has a drive and a catchy sound that makes me want to get up and dance every time I hear it, which is a big bonus! It’s one of the more powerful songs that the girls sing, too.

Lyrics: The words in this song relate to the hardships of having friends and how important it is to have them, and I really like that about the song.

We only get one life
Go my way
I want to have adventures, too
Happening again and again
Meetings and partings
The nights of solitude finally over
Inside the gentle winds
Your smiling face is always the same
Radiant
Even if we start to walk down
(winding road)
Separate roads
(special time forever)
Somewhere deep inside
We're connected

I really think that’s what’s important and that this song is one of the best songs that represents one of the main cornerstones of PGSM as a series and storyline. This is a great song for friendship and celebrating it.

Overall Rating:

A five. It’s one of my absolute favorites in the soundtrack for this show and it really speaks to me. It’s a powerhouse of just being happy with having friends. I really like that.

Jess' Review of Friend

Tone/Mood: It's upbeat and catchy, but the opening bars make me cringe because it makes a person think that the whole song is going to be the same if you don't give it a chance. It's not something to dance around to, but it's a song that will make you smile and lift your mood.

Placement: Used at the very end of the show, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure why they didn't use it before, though I suppose since the girls weren't exactly all together and all friends until that moment, it fits.

Memorable: I think it's memorable as a general theme to PGSM, as an overview of the show. And, if not for that, for the possibility of it making people think of their own friends.

Lyrics:

I was smiling, shy of
This thing called friendship
Thanks for giving me
This wonderful dream

Okay, so the lyrics are overly sappy, but there's a meaning behind them. If I had to take something from this song to say to my friends, it's those lines.
