PGSM: A Brief Summary
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (hereafter referred to as "PGSM") is the live action version of the popular Japanese animated series, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Pretty Girl Soldier Sailor Moon). PGSM aired from October 27th, 2003 until October 25th, 2004. A "Special Act" (a one-hour special episode) was released on November 24th, 2004, and "Act Zero" is scheduled to be released in March of 2005. PGSM follows the original plot of the original animated Sailor Moon to a great extent, however; many of the components of the show have been changed to be a little more modern, and plot changes have been made to make the show (in my opinion) better than the original. PGSM is targetted to an audience made up of Japanese little girls (ages 4-12) but it is widely popular with fans of all ages and of all nationalities.
PGSM is a story about 14-year-old Tsukino Usagi, who gains the ability to transform into the legendary sailor soldier, Sailor Moon, from her talking cat guardian, Luna. Sailor Moon meets four other girl soldiers who can transform into other planetary soldiers: Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus. Together, the girls must fight the powers of the Dark Kingdom, who are collectively trying to take over Earth and destroy the galaxy. The Dark Kingdom is made up of Queen Beryl, Jedite, Nephrite, Zoicite, Kunzite, and a new character not featured in the animated Sailor Moon named Kuroki Mio. Sailor Moon also has a mysterious masked friend named Tuxedo Mask, who she later falls in love with. Sailor Moon can also transform into a new super form not originally in the animated series called Princess Sailor Moon. She can also become Princess Serenity. Tuxedo Mask can transform into Prince Endymion. However, even though Sailor Moon is a powerful soldier, she is still just a 14-year-old girl with normal problems. She has a little brother named Shingo, her mother Ikuko, and a best friend named Naru who she is trying to keep her identity from. Sailor Moon also loves to goof off and karaoke, and she often goes to the Crown Arcade, which is run by her friend Furuhata Motoki. The boy she has a crush on, Chiba Mamoru, is also secretly Tuxedo Mask! In all, Tsukino Usagi's adventures as Sailor Moon are pretty interesting, and I highly reccommend PGSM to any fan of Sailor Moon or shoujo animation.
