China Clay - white make-up used by geisha that had a lead base. It also contained elements that were poisonous. When it interacted with water from hot springs, it dyed the skin of the geisha wearing it yellow over the years.

Chiyo no Tomo (千代の友) - literally means "Friends Everlasting." It is a famous dance piece about two devoted women meeting again after a long absence from each other.

Dr. Crab - originally of noble status but without any money from it, Dr. Crab is a self-made man. He likes to think of himself as nobility and deserving of things because of his status, but he is really just a working class man. He bids against Nobu and the Baron for Sayuri's mizuage and wins. He believes Hatsumomo's rumors about Sayuri for a while, but eventually discards them and bids for Sayuri's mizuage anyway. He fetishizes blood. When he heals Sayuri's leg, he keeps a sample of her blood in a vial along with the blood of other geisha whose blood he has come across. He labels all of the vials of their blood and keeps them in a suitcase. He is a patron of the Ichiriki and the Shirae teahouse.

Cruel Rain - a dance piece about a woman whose lover takes off his jacket for her in the rain, even though he is a spirit and will melt when he is touched by water. Sayuri performs this dance for the Chairman.
