D Dance in the Stream - a striptease that is usually performed by prostitutes. Dances of the Old Capital - a dance recital that geisha hold annually. It is Gion's biggest annual event. It has a theme every year, such as "Colors of the Four Seasons in Kyoto" or "Famous Places from Tale of the Heike." The theme that Sayuri performs in it is "The Gleaming Light of the Morning Sun." Uchida Kosaburo made the posters for these events. The solo part that Sayuri stars in is called "The Morning Sun on the Waves." The dance that Mameha stars in is called "A Courtier Returns to His Wife." danna (旦那) - the name of a geisha's patron. A danna is like a husband to a geisha -- he pays all of her medical expenses, food expenses, sponsors dance recitals for her, and usually gives her gifts of kimono. darari-obi (だらりおび) - literally, "dangling obi."
