I Ichimura Uzaemon XIV - a Kabuki actor who takes the hand of the Granny of the Nitta okiya when she is just a 14-year-old maiko (apprentice geisha) at a tsukimi (moon viewing) party. His real name was Bandou Kakitsu. For more information, click here. Ichiriki Teahouse (一力茶屋) - the primary teahouse where Sayuri and Mameha entertain customers. It is located on Shijo Avenue. She has a bad habit of picking her nose. Shojiro mimics her at his party. Inonue - a young tatami maker with whom Sayuri is involved in an affair during World War II with the Arashino family. Inonue School of Dance - a dance school that teaches Noh style dancing to geisha. Sayuri learns dance here from Teacher Rump. Prime Minister Inukai - a Japanese Prime Minister who served from December 13th, 1931 until May 15th, 1932. He dies of a heart attack during an air raid drill. Iwamura Electric - an electric company run out of Osaka that Iwamura Ken founded. Iwamura Ken and Toshikazu Nobu run the business together and are best friends. It became a large company after Iwamura Ken developed a light socket that could hold two light bulbs. It celebrated its twentieth anniversary in April of 1931. After World War II, Iwamura Electric is charged as being a zaibatsu and needs Sayuri's help to convince a man in charge of determining which companies are zaibatsu or not to help Iwamura Electric. After it is decided that it isn't a zaibatsu, it secures funding from Mitsubishi Bank, making Nobu and the Chairman very wealthy men again. Iwamura, Ken - also referred to as "The Chairman." He is Sayuri's love interest and Nobu's business partner. He is the chairman of Iwamura Electric, an electric company based in Osaka. He is married and has only daughters with his wife. With Sayuri he eventually has a son, who is kept hidden from Japan and lives in America with his mother. In Sayuri's diary, he is referred to as "Mr. Haa."
