Yoegoro - a Kabuki actor who reportedly told Sayuri she was very beautiful during a game of "Big Liar." He also reportedly mailed letters to Sayuri with a tiny black curled hair at the bottom corner of them. Yoko - a woman who works at the Nitta okiya answering the telephone and booking arrangements for the geisha who live there. She helps Hatsumomo and her lover Koichi to meet together in secret. yokozuna (横綱) - the highest rank in sumo wrestling. Yomiuri - a newspaper that features a photograph of the Chairman after World War II. Yoroido - the birthplace of Chiyo Sakamoto, later to become Nitta Sayuri.
