Minako Aino is the leader-type of the inner scouts. She often takes charge, and like Usagi, she also has a cat that follows her around. The cat's name is artemis, and he's Minako's best friend and even somewhat of a love interest.

Minako's different from all the other senshi because she actually was the main character of a series before Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon came around. Formerly "Sailor V," Minako would scout Japan, fighting evil and beating up bad guys with the help of her cat, Artemis, and proclaimed herself the "Champion of Justice." Minako wore a slightly different sailor outfit and had a crescent moon on her forehead when she was Sailor V. In the Sailor Moon series, when Sailor Moon appeared, Sailor V mysteriously disappeared.

Minako makes her first appearance as Sailor Venus in Act 7 of Volume 2. She saves Sailor Moon and announces that she's Princess Serenity and explains the senshi's history and the Dark Kingdom. As we all know, Sailor Venus is not Princess Serenity. Sailor Moon is revealed to be Princess Serenity after Tuxedo Kamen is injured when trying to save Sailor Moon. The fake crescent moon mark on Sailor Venus's forehead vanishes and is replaced with a tiara.

Mythology
Venus was the Roman version of the greek goddess, Aphrodite. Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. Aphrodite was one of the twelve Olympians, along with Artemis. Artemis, another goddess (and Sailor Venus's cat :D) doesn't have a happy relationship with Aphrodite - so I won't go into detail since it doesn't reflect in Sailor Moon. Essentially, Hippolytus disliked the worship of Aphrodite for Artemis and Aphrodite ruined his life. Hippolytus dies and Artemis vows to kill Adonis, the one Aphrodite loves.

Minako's astrological sign is libra. Libra's tend to be diplomatic, romatic, sociable, gullible, flirtatious, and self-indulged. They tend to be more artistic than intellectual and are very friendly. That pretty much describes Minako. :D
