About the SMFFG
Write up by Elly:
The Sailormoon Funny Faces Gallery is a project that I did not begin, and one that I did not even know about until it almost ended. The original Sailormoon Funny Faces Gallery was a website run by the same people who ran the Save Our Sailors Campaign back in 1994. I started to visit their gallery around 1996 or so at the tender age of 9. =3 A year or so after I began to visit the first Sailormoon Funny Faces gallery, it closed down -- poof, gone, without a trace. I was sad to see the site gone, along with mamoru.net which was another favorite Sailormoon gallery of mine.
Of course, like most Sailormoon fans I started to fiddle around with HTML to make my own Sailormoon website, and I had a little bit of success. However, what I really wanted to put online was something akin to the stuff I used to view back during Web 1.0 when .jpeg files were all the rage. So I decided in late 2005 to revive the Sailormoon Funny Faces Gallery, and re-create from the ashes what the original SMFFG used to be like as I remembered it.
Unfortunately, I decided to do this on the eve of entering college. I had little to no time to maintain the gallery or update it and so in 2006 it went on indefinite hiatus. I was sad to see it go because I had so many positive responses to the gallery, but I simply didn't have the time to check my e-mail once a week let alone run a website. So things went on.
A few months after giving birth to my son in 2008, I felt rather out of touch with the online Sailormoon community because I had been absent for it for the duration of my pregnancy. So I decided to join a few Livejournal Sailormoon fandom communities, just to meet some new friends and get back in touch with others that I had lost. A few months passed, and then out of the blue someone on the community posted a request for 'funny images' to use for making icons. And what was one of the URLs that was suggested? My Sailormoon Funny Faces Gallery! I was estatic. Even after two years of hiatus people were still accessing the site and using it. So I decided that I would bring it back to life.
I'm still cramped for time, what with being a new mom, finishing up a degree, and teaching Japanese (whew!), but reviving SMFFG is important not only to myself (hey -- coding relaxes me!) but it seems that the SMFFG is still relavant to other Sailormoon fans. And so whatever the cost, I plan on keeping the SMFFG alive for as long as possible. I hope you all enjoy the project in its THIRD resurrection!
UPDATE: As of 2010, I've opened up a new website called Miss Dream, and so I no longer have time to run the SMFFG properly. Therefore, I have handed over ownership to my friend and staff worker Jen, though I'll be staying on as staff to work in a very technical capacity to make sure the databases and such stay running without a glitch. And, I'll still be making LJ icons from time to time. ^___^
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you can find answer to all of your SMFFG-related questions! (I hope! ,(^-^)') If this is your first time using the SMFFG gallery, you might want to check this page out!
Is it okay to use these images to make backgrounds, icons, layouts, etc?
Absolutely! What's the point of making a gallery if you don't want ANYONE using your images?! Anyone is more than welcome to save these images to their computer, use them in graphics, etc. All that I ask is that if you're going to put them on your website as part of a gallery that you credit me. It'd also be nice to credit me when using my images for icons or whatever else, but it isn't required. Still, I love to see how people end up using these images, so if you're making icons or whatever with them drop me a line so I can check out your work! I love seeing my pictures in action. *_*
How did you make this gallery?
I used a lot of scripts and spent a lot of time modifying them. Check out the credits page for more information on what exactly I used in building this site!
I want to open my own [INSERT ANIME TITLE HERE] Funny Faces Gallery. Do I need to give you credit for the idea?
Not at all! The SMFFG wasn't even my own original idea to begin with, so if you wanted to make a Dragon Ball Z Funny Faces Gallery or whatever else, that'd be awesome! I'd love to see what you come up with, so drop me a line! It'd be cool to affiliate with other sites of the same 'kind'.
Will you help me code something / make me a layout?
Sadly, I just don't have the time to help other people build their websites anymore, sorry! There are tons of places you can go to get help, though. If you're looking for layouts, DayDreamGraphics has a ton. For most of the scripts I use on this site, there are tutorials on the download pages for those scripts on how to use 'em. As for Photoshop, you can google tons and tons of how-to tutorials. Best of luck! (o^^)o
